The An Phu Interchange project is known as Ho Chi Minh City’s most modern interchange project, with a 3-story scale and a total investment of over VND 3,400 billion. After nearly 2 years of construction, many items of the project have now become clear and are in the final stage.

According to the set plan, in 2024, the An Phu Interchange project will complete 3 main packages including: Ba Dat Bridge is expected to be completed by the end of August; Goong Ong To 2 Bridge will be completed by September 30 and HC1-1 Tunnel will be completed by December.

As recorded by VTC News reporters, at Package XL5 (construction of the HC1-1 underground tunnel), dozens of construction workers worked through the night to speed up the project’s progress.

On the construction site, the contractor is focusing on completing the K12 tunnel section and the 2 enclosed tunnel sections K7 – K8. Specifically, for the K7 – K8 tunnel section, the contractor has constructed and cast the concrete tunnel lid, and for the K8 tunnel section, the contractor has also completed the tunnel wall casting process.

Mr. Lai Van Mien, Commander of Package XL5, said that to ensure the progress of the project, the contractor has divided the workers into 2 shifts. Specifically, shift 1 works from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and the remaining shift will work from 9:00 p.m. to the next morning.

“The An Phu Interchange is a key project of Ho Chi Minh City, so the contractor has determined that for the items and packages that need to be implemented, we will arrange 3 continuous shifts of workers and engineers without holidays”, Mr. Mien said.

Regarding the project progress, Mr. Mien said that the contractor is ensuring the progress as planned, and in September 2024, it will open traffic on the K7-K8 tunnel lid and strive to complete the K9-K10 tunnel lid by the end of 2024. According to Mr. Mien, the biggest difficulty in the construction process of the An Phu Interchange is traffic diversion.

“This location has a huge number of vehicles traveling, especially large trucks going to and from Cat Lai ferry, which causes difficulties for the construction process as well as ensuring traffic safety. In addition, during the construction of the tunnel, a large underground water source appeared, which also took a lot of time to deal with,” Mr. Mien added.

Once completed, the An Phu Interchange project is expected to help reduce congestion in the eastern gateway area of Ho Chi Minh City, while also improving the efficiency of the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay expressway when Long Thanh International Airport becomes operational.
