Since the early morning, traditional markets and supermarkets in the northern provinces have been packed with customers buying meat, vegetables, and other foodstuffs.

Super Typhoon Yagi (Storm No. 3), predicted to be the strongest in a decade, has caused a continuous surge in the demand for stockpiling essential goods.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Deputy General Director of the WinMart chain, perishable goods (especially MEATDeli meat and long-lasting vegetables like squash and melon), frozen foods, and instant noodles are among the products with soaring sales at WinMart supermarkets on September 6th.

“At WinMart Thang Long supermarket, the volume of incoming goods increased by 200-300%, and the number of customers this morning rose by 300% compared to a typical day”, stated Mr. Dung.

Supermarkets Assure Sufficient Stock

However, Mr. Dung affirmed that the WinMart chain has prepared a plan to ensure an adequate supply of essential goods and dry rations.

“WinMart has proactively collaborated with suppliers and increased reserves of perishable food groups by 30%. In addition, WinMart already has dry food groups, chilled products, and frozen items ready to serve customers. We have prepared and stocked goods in central warehouses in the Northern region and increased inventory in supermarkets to guarantee sufficient goods for customers”, informed Mr. Dung.

Regarding the Aeon system, the bases in the North have doubled their stock compared to regular days. The company is also working with suppliers to ensure stable supply and pricing.

Meanwhile, the GO and Big C chains in the North have doubled their supply of essential vegetables and fruits, and Co.opmart Hanoi has proactively arranged personnel and adjusted work shifts to avoid affecting supermarket opening hours. They are also coordinating to serve customers directly in the supermarket and those who place orders over the phone.

Furthermore, on September 6th, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade announced that it had prepared a stockpile of commodities, especially essential goods, worth hundreds of billions of VND. The department is also ready to coordinate with enterprises to ensure supply and support people in localities in case of floods and isolation.
