The Heavy Rainfall Submerges Sections of National Highway 1A

Heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding on National Highway 1A, particularly in the Ha Trung district of Thanh Hoa province. The deluge has resulted in deep waterlogged stretches, disrupting traffic flow. Authorities have promptly responded, deploying personnel on the ground to regulate and divert traffic, ensuring the safety of commuters and facilitating a swift return to normalcy.

Heavy and prolonged rainfall, coupled with water flowing downstream, caused a rapid rise in water levels in the Hoat, Tong, and Chieu Bach rivers, which flow through Ha Trung district. This led to flooding on multiple sections of National Highway 1A and in several residential areas.

The road was flooded with water levels reaching an average of 30 cm, with some areas experiencing depths of up to 60 cm.

In Yen Duong commune, the swollen Hoat, Tong, and Chieu Bach rivers flooded parts of Yen Xa village and Vung Market. Homes in areas outside the Hoat and Tong river dikes were also affected by the rising waters.
Residents used sandbags and tarpaulins to prevent water from flowing into their homes from the flooded highway.
To ensure traffic safety in the flooded areas of National Highway 1A in Ha Trung district, provincial traffic police and local authorities installed warning signs and guided vehicles to ensure safe passage.

In Thanh Hoa, at around 7 am on September 12, Ms. P.T.V. (born 2005), a resident of Dong Cha neighborhood in Phong Son town, Cam Thuy district, was on her way to work when she was swept away by flash floods while crossing the Song Nga overflow dam in Cam Ngoc commune.

Upon receiving the report, the authorities of Cam Thuy district promptly deployed a search operation for the victim. At around 10:30 am, Ms. V.’s body was recovered and handed over to her family for local burial customs.

Also, on the morning of September 12, at the Thanh Tien overflow dam in Thanh Long commune, Thach Thanh district, along Provincial Road 516B leading to Vinh Hung commune, Vinh Loc district, a 1.5-ton truck carrying acacia seedlings was stranded due to engine failure in the flooded area. Subsequently, the truck was swept away by flash floods downstream by about 3 meters.

Upon receiving the report, the authorities of Thach Thanh district promptly arrived at the scene to carry out rescue and salvage operations.

 

The impact of Tropical Storm No. 3 brought prolonged heavy rainfall in Thanh Hoa province, causing flooding and landslides on several roads, especially national and provincial roads in mountainous districts. Many sections of roads were inundated, and strong currents of water flowed across the roads, posing significant risks to people and vehicles.

To ensure safety, the authorities of Thanh Hoa province advise travelers to survey their routes before departure and strictly follow the instructions of officials on duty or posted warning signs. Under no circumstances should individuals attempt to drive through these hazardous areas.
