Secretary Nguyen Anh Tuan and Chairman Vuong Quoc Tuan were briefed by Mr. Ji Jong Rip, Global Manufacturing & Operation CEO of Amkor Technology, on the group’s business model.

As a pioneer in semiconductor manufacturing globally, the Amkor Group was established concurrently in the United States and South Korea. Amkor’s project in Yen Phong II-C Industrial Park in Bac Ninh, Vietnam, involves the production and assembly of semiconductor materials with a total investment of up to USD 1.6 billion by 2035 and a land area of approximately 23 hectares. Phase 1 focuses on providing advanced System in Package (SiP) assembly and testing solutions for leading global electronics and semiconductor companies, with an investment of about USD 530 million. After nearly a year of trial operations, the company officially commenced operations with 1,061 employees, including 938 Vietnamese workers (of which 760 were trained in semiconductors at various levels domestically and overseas).

Mr. Ji Jong Rip, Global Manufacturing & Operation CEO of Amkor Technolory, expressed his delight in welcoming the Bac Ninh provincial leadership delegation to the company. He also extended his sympathies to the provincial leaders and the people of Bac Ninh, who had recently endured the impact of Storm No. 3 (Yagi), which caused significant damage to production and daily life. He hoped that the local government and people would soon overcome these challenges and gradually recover from the flood damage.

Mr. Ji Jong Rip, along with the FDI business community in Bac Ninh, expressed their gratitude to the provincial leaders and departments for their active support during the peak of the storm, ensuring a stable power supply and uninterrupted production for the companies. This reflected the provincial leaders’ commitment to accompanying businesses through all situations and difficulties, fostering their development.

The company pledged to build a semiconductor ecosystem that would not only help the province integrate more deeply into the global supply chain but also meet the company’s requirements for high-quality human resources. They expressed their confidence in Vietnam’s potential to establish a robust semiconductor industry, leveraging its advantages in young, intelligent, and innovative human resources, along with significant support from the Vietnamese government.

Amkor Technology Vietnam Company
proposed that Bac Ninh province remove the median barrier to create a more accessible entrance for their employees and workers. They also requested support in constructing a dormitory and housing area for their employees to rent, as previously committed. Additionally, they sought assistance from the Tax and Customs departments in facilitating the import of some semiconductor training equipment.

Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Anh Tuan expressed his appreciation to the Global Manufacturing & Operation CEO of Amkor Technolory for his concern and sympathy for the difficulties faced by the people of Bac Ninh and other northern provinces of Vietnam during Storm No. 3. He congratulated Amkor Technology Vietnam on their achievements, including negotiating with four customers and exporting their first batch of products after nearly a year of operation in Yen Phong II-C Industrial Park.

Secretary Nguyen Anh Tuan commended Amkor’s goodwill and commitment to investment and operational timelines in Bac Ninh, reflecting the group’s efforts and dedication. He believed that after Mr. Ji Jong Rip’s visit to Vietnam, the company would enter a new phase of even better development.

Regarding Bac Ninh’s response to Storm No. 3, the province had made a resolute decision to maintain power supply and uninterrupted production for critical enterprises. They successfully prevented prolonged localized flooding in industrial parks. Bac Ninh’s resilience in the face of Storm No. 3, especially in the industrial parks, affirmed the wisdom of investors who chose to locate their businesses in the province. Bac Ninh upholds the spirit of “Working together, Winning together” with the business community.

In response to the proposals and recommendations of Amkor Technology Vietnam, Secretary Nguyen Anh Tuan instructed the Industrial Park Management Board to coordinate with the Department of Transport and Viglacera Infrastructure Company to survey and identify a suitable location to remove the median barrier, thereby creating a more convenient entrance for the company. Regarding the urban area project, including dormitories and social housing, he assigned relevant sectors to expedite the implementation of the planned urban area project to provide stable accommodation for the company’s employees and workers in Bac Ninh.
