The power couple, entrepreneur Phan Thi Mai and her husband, Hoang Kim Khanh, recently made headlines with their lavish housewarming party at their 4,000 sqm mansion in District 12, Ho Chi Minh City. The event shed light on their successful business ventures, particularly their chain of Mailisa beauty salons. Many assumed that Phan Thi Mai, the CEO, came from a wealthy background. However, contrary to public perception, she actually grew up in a financially challenging environment in Tan Dan, Duc Tho, Ha Tinh province.
As a native of Ha Tinh, a province often ravaged by natural disasters, the female entrepreneur and her husband decided to travel from Ho Chi Minh City to the North to directly hand over 3 billion VND and 50 tons of rice to the people affected by the storms and floods.
In the business world, the Mailisa couple might not have stood out before, but they can now be considered ‘tycoons’ among Vietnam’s rich and famous. Apart from their impressive real estate holdings, they are also renowned for their collection of luxury supercars.
Phan Thi Mai has been aggressively promoting her beauty salon brand, Mailisa, across various media platforms. On the company’s website and social media channels like Facebook and TikTok, her and her husband’s images are prominently featured to advertise services such as tattooing, surgery, hair removal, and the sale of Doctor Magic-branded cosmetics.
According to the official website, the Mailisa brand has expanded over 26 years and now boasts more than 16 branches nationwide, offering a range of services, including cosmetic coloring, skin treatments, plastic surgery, and training.
Currently, Hoang Kim Khanh and Phan Thi Mai own a string of businesses in provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Dak Lak, Can Tho, Binh Duong, Nghe An, and Phu Quoc. These businesses are the legal entities behind the chain of Mailisa beauty salons.
The companies in the system mainly focus on beauty and vocational training, and while the brands may differ in presentation, they all fall under the Mailisa umbrella. Specifically, some of the companies registered under Hoang Kim Khanh’s name include: Limited Company Service Mailisa (established in 2018); Limited Company Production Trading Service Import Export MK SKINCARE (2017); and Limited Company Trading Mailisa (2015)…
On the other hand, Phan Thi Mai is the registered owner of several companies, such as: Limited Company Trading and Service MAI LI SA (2009, ceased operation); Limited Company Production Trading Service Import Export MAIKABEAUTY (2023); and Limited Company MAI LI SA (2007)…
Among these, the Limited Company MAI LI SA, established in 2007, is considered Phan Thi Mai’s first startup and currently serves as the key company in the Mailisa ecosystem. MAI LI SA is headquartered at 86-92 Huynh Van Banh, Ward 15, Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City, with a charter capital of 1 billion VND.
In 2023, the company recorded the highest revenue in its history, reaching 307.6 billion VND, a 19% increase compared to 2022. In the last five years (2019-2023), the company’s total revenue surpassed 1,000 billion VND, averaging 200 billion VND annually.
Similarly, the Limited Company Trading Mailisa, the focal point for operations in Buon Ma Thuot City (Dak Lak province), also started with a charter capital of 1 billion VND. During the 2019-2023 period, the unit generated 270 billion VND in revenue and over 114 billion VND in post-tax profits, equivalent to a remarkable 42% profit rate.
Meanwhile, the sole limited liability company in Hanoi, Limited Company Trading Service MAILISA, has a charter capital of 15 billion VND. In its first year of operation, the unit garnered nearly 62 billion VND in revenue and over 26 billion VND in post-tax profits, considered a “colossal” profit for a company just over a year old. In 2020, its gross revenue soared to nearly 158 billion VND, a 2.5-fold increase, while its post-tax profit also rose by 57% to over 90 billion VND.
From 2019 to 2021, the unit achieved a total revenue of 384 billion VND and a post-tax profit of 194 billion VND, corresponding to a profit rate of up to 50.5%.
