“Police in Nghe An and Ninh Binh Provinces Seize Thousands of Unsafe Mooncakes”
Since August, the Nghe An Provincial Police, in coordination with the Market Management Force and functional agencies, have inspected and handled nearly 200 cases of counterfeit, imitation, and substandard goods, as well as unsafe food products.
The authorities fined and destroyed nearly 30,000 toy products, over 39,000 candies and mooncakes, and 1,000 kg of animal products, with a total value of nearly VND 1 billion.
Earlier, in late August, the Police Department for Corruption, Economic, Smuggling, and Environmental Crime Investigation of Nghe An Provincial Police, in coordination with the Market Management Bureau, inspected several business establishments in Vinh Tan Ward, Vinh City.
The inspection discovered a store with nearly 20,000 prohibited children’s toys, such as guns and knives, and candies and mooncakes without invoices or documents proving their origin.
On September 9, the authorities found a children’s toy store in Le Mao Ward, Vinh City, with nearly 18,000 Mid-Autumn Festival toys of unknown origin.
Most recently, on September 11, the inspection team discovered a business establishment in Hung Tay, Hung Nguyen District, confiscating 1,776 mooncakes produced abroad but of unknown origin. All of the aforementioned goods were destroyed by the authorities.
In Ninh Binh Province, on September 10, the Ninh Binh Provincial Police’s Economic Police, in coordination with Team No. 1 of the Provincial Market Management Bureau, conducted a surprise inspection of Chi Cuong food business in Tan Thanh Ward, Ninh Binh City. They discovered a large number of mooncakes of unknown origin.
At the time of the inspection, 332 mooncakes of 500g each, 2,160 mooncakes of 40g each, 120 mooncakes of 66.5g each, and 120 packages of mooncakes (6 pieces/package, 180g/package) were found. These products lacked labels and had unclear origins.
The business owner could not present documents or invoices proving the origin of the goods as required. The Ninh Binh Market Management Authority fined the business VND 17 million for trading food products without clear origins and ordered the destruction of 3,332 mooncakes of various types.

“Minister of Industry and Trade, Nguyen Hong Dien, presented a draft to the Government on the morning of August 21st, proposing a revision of the retail electricity price structure. The new structure would comprise five tiers instead of the current six. Notably, the first tier is suggested to be increased from 0 – 50 kWh to 0 – 100 kWh.”
