Spreading ESG Spirit Through the ‘Green Race’: HDBank Supports the Green Can Gio Marathon 2024
The Green Can Gio Marathon 2024, proudly supported by HDBank, was a meaningful sporting event that attracted over 3,500 runners from Vietnam and abroad. The event, held on September 7-8, 2024, in Can Gio, Ho Chi Minh City’s “green lung,” also featured a range of community and environmental initiatives.
As part of the Nghinh Ong Festival, a centuries-old tradition recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism since 2013, the marathon was organized by UNIQUE Trading Service Investment Co., Ltd., in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Athletics Federation, under the guidance of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports.
Can Gio, famous for its unique mangrove forest ecosystem and recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve, offered a unique experience for runners with its lush green routes. The event also served as a powerful message about environmental protection and raised awareness among the community about the importance of nature conservation.
The marathon featured diverse and creative race distances suitable for all ages and families. In addition to the sporting event, the Green Can Gio Marathon 2024 also included meaningful activities such as beach cleanups, tree-planting initiatives, and various cultural and social welfare programs.
Mr. Nguyen Canh Vinh, HDBank’s Deputy CEO, who personally participated in the marathon and completed the 42km distance, emphasized the rich natural and cultural values of Can Gio. He added that the breathtaking forest routes allowed runners to appreciate the area’s natural beauty and spread the message of environmental protection for this World Biosphere Reserve. HDBank believes that success lies not only in economic development but also in how we build, protect, and preserve our heritage for future generations.
