‘Coffee and Conversations’: A Nationwide Fundraising Initiative for the Vietnam Fatherland Front

At cafes across the nation, a heartwarming initiative is taking place. Patrons are being invited to donate their bill amount to the Vietnam Fatherland Front's flood relief efforts. A new initiative is being adopted by cafes across various localities, with the aim of providing additional financial support to those affected by Typhoon Yagi and subsequent flooding, landslides, and other natural disasters. QR codes linked directly to the bank account of the Vietnamese Fatherland Front (VFF) are now being displayed prominently within these establishments, offering customers an alternative way to contribute when settling their bills. Instead of paying the cafe directly, patrons are encouraged to scan the QR code and transfer their payment via their banking app or e-wallet.

Nhe Cafe, a prominent cafe chain in Bac Ninh, is among the pioneers of this trend. Thuy Dung, the chain’s Marketing Director, shared that after donating 20 million VND to the VFF in Bac Ninh following Typhoon Yagi, the company wanted to further foster a sense of community and compassion among its customers. As a result, they decided to dedicate all proceeds from Saturday (September 14th) at their busiest branch to supporting those affected by natural disasters.

“We hope that through this approach, more people will find it convenient and effortless to show their support. A cup of coffee may only cost a few thousand VND, but when paired with a generous spirit, it can make a far greater impact,”

said Dung.

This initiative has gained traction across the nation, with cafes in Hanoi also embracing the trend. Well-known coffee brands in the capital have begun displaying QR codes that allow customers to send donations directly to the VFF’s central committee.

The owner of a cafe on Nguyen Van Cu Street in Long Bien district shared their thoughts:

“I believe that this movement spreads the spirit of solidarity with our fellow citizens affected by floods to all Vietnamese people. It encourages everyone to actively contribute, no matter how small the amount. With a united effort and a desire to spread kindness, every donation, no matter the size, is invaluable.”

The owner of a small cafe on Yen Lang Street in Dong Da district expressed similar sentiments:

“Initially, I just wanted to do something meaningful, but seeing how enthusiastic our customers are about this initiative, I realize that we’ve truly made a difference.”

By enabling customers to send donations directly to the VFF’s central committee, this approach not only enhances transparency and speed in fundraising but also removes barriers for those who wish to help but are hesitant due to complex procedures. Minh Anh, a regular customer at a Hanoi cafe, shared her perspective:

“I have a habit of drinking coffee every morning, and now I’ve discovered a simple way to help others. It’s a small gesture, but it carries a lot of significance.”

In Quang Nam, a cafe located at the intersection of Tuệ Tĩnh and Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai streets in Tam Kỳ city took a similar approach. They displayed banners announcing:

“Cafe Hen would like to inform our valued customers that from September 12th to 15th, in the spirit of supporting the northern provinces affected by natural disasters and flooding, we will not be accepting cash payments. We kindly request that you make your payments directly to the Vietnamese Fatherland Front Central Committee’s office.”

Moved by the severe losses incurred by communities in the north due to natural disasters, the owner of this cafe decided to contribute all proceeds from those four days to provide assistance.

This movement is gaining momentum, with both cafe owners and customers joining hands to make a difference. Many individuals have shared that when paying their bills into the VFF’s account, they not only cover the cost of their drinks but also include an additional donation.

“It’s just a small amount, but I would usually hesitate to donate. However, when I’m at a cafe, I don’t feel that barrier, so I’m happy to contribute,”

said Van Ha, a 21-year-old from Hanoi. Another customer shared, ”

I’ve already donated to support the flood-affected regions through various channels, but when I go to a cafe and add a little extra to my bill, it brings me joy. It may only be a few dollars, but every little bit counts, whether it’s an extra bag of rice or some meat for those in need.”
