“HDBank Secures Additional $50 Million from Proparco to Advance Sustainable Development and Gender Equality in Vietnam”
This new funding brings the total value of Proparco’s contribution to HDBank to date to $100 million, demonstrating Proparco’s trust and commitment to accompanying HDBank on its sustainable development journey. The funds will be used to finance/refinance climate finance projects and support women-owned enterprises that meet the standards of the 2X Challenge – a global initiative to promote gender equality and sustainable development.
Previously, HDBank and Proparco made significant strides in expanding their cooperation. In August 2021, Proparco provided HDBank with its first credit facility of $50 million for a 5-year term, enabling the bank to finance renewable energy projects in Vietnam.
HDBank is currently facilitating connections between Vietnamese enterprises and Proparco, unlocking potential collaboration opportunities to advance sustainable development goals globally. Along with other international financial institutions, Proparco has actively contributed to the development and refinement of HDBank’s Environmental and Social Risk Management System.
The strengthened partnership with Proparco in the areas of renewable energy, climate finance, and gender equality is a crucial and necessary step for HDBank to continuously expand its collaboration with leading global financial institutions, especially in green finance. This credit agreement with Proparco not only reinforces HDBank’s capital position but also underscores the bank’s strong commitment to effectively implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices according to international standards.
In Vietnam, HDBank is the first commercial bank to pioneer the publication of a dedicated Sustainability Report in 2024, and it is also the first to establish an ESG Committee under the Board of Directors to directly lead and oversee the implementation of sustainability goals and initiatives.
