The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs is seeking feedback from other ministries and sectors on the proposed schedule for the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday.
Accordingly, the Ministry has suggested a five-day holiday for the Lunar New Year, including two days before and three days after the New Year, as per regulations.
Specifically, civil servants and public employees will have time off from Saturday, January 25, 2025, to Sunday, February 2, 2025 (the 26th of the twelfth lunar month, Wood Dragon year, to the 5th of the first lunar month, Fire Snake year).
With this proposal, civil servants and employees will enjoy a nine-day break, consisting of the five-day Lunar New Year holiday and four days off for the weekend.
Each year, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs collects input from relevant agencies to advise the Prime Minister on deciding the Lunar New Year and National Day holidays for civil servants, public employees, and workers.
The Lunar New Year holiday schedule varies annually as the Labour Law stipulates only a five-day break. According to the 2019 Labour Law, employees are entitled to eleven days off for official holidays with full pay, including New Year’s Day (1 day), Lunar New Year (5 days), Hung Kings’ Temple Festival on the 10th of the third lunar month (1 day), April 30 Victory Day (1 day), International Labour Day on May 1 (1 day), and National Day on September 2 (2 days).
When working on official holidays, employees are entitled to at least 300% of their regular wage, comprising 100% taxable income and 200% tax-exempt income.
