Vietnamese financial investors have been keenly observing the recent announcements from foreign ETFs regarding their quarterly portfolio adjustments for Q3 2024. This week, these investment funds will be restructuring their holdings.

Among them, the FTSE Vietnam Swap UCITS ETF, a prominent ETF with total assets of $294 million, has decided to add three new stocks to its portfolio: KDH, FTS, and FRT. On the other hand, VNM ETF, a larger fund with assets exceeding $492 million, has opted to remove EVF from its holdings.

Another ETF undergoing restructuring this week is the Fubon ETF, with a total NAV of $665 million. Mr. Luan, an expert in this field, predicts that this Taiwanese investment fund will not make any changes to its current composition.

All three ETFs will execute their restructuring by September 20th. However, Mr. Luan notes that while Fubon ETF has set this date as its deadline, their portfolio adjustments typically extend beyond this timeframe.

Based on the above, Mr. Luan forecasts that KDH will top the list of most-bought stocks with 7.3 million shares, followed by VRE with 4 million, and HPG with 3.2 million. Other stocks like FTS, PDR, NVL, HAG, and FRT are also expected to witness significant buying activity.

On the selling side, EVF and VIX are predicted to see substantial sell-offs, with 11.3 million and 24.5 million shares respectively. In the case of VIX, Mr. Luan explains that the company recently offered a large proportion of its shares, but the completion date fell after the record date. This resulted in a significant decrease in the free-float data, impacting the weight of VIX in the portfolios of the FTSE ETF and VNM ETF. However, the sold-off shares are only related to those entitled to the rights.

“If FTSE ETF and VNM ETF do not exercise their rights, the sold shares may not be traded on the exchange, potentially having no impact on the price of VIX stock,” Mr. Luan added.
