The Apple Store Singapore Sees Lackluster Launch Day: Is the iPhone 16 Losing Its Luster or Is It a Matter of Missing the Mark with Color Options?

Despite the no-camping rule for early iPhone sales, the scene outside Apple's Orchard Store in Singapore was surprisingly sparse.

The highly-anticipated iPhone 16 Series goes on sale in major markets today, with Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia being the closest to Vietnam.

As expected, the night before the launch, eager customers would usually line up outside Apple Stores. However, this time, Apple Stores did not allow overnight queuing, instead, early buyers were given a number and asked to return in the morning of the 20th to line up.

In contrast to previous years, the scene outside the Apple Store on Orchard Road, Singapore, was relatively quiet before the sale. It is unclear if the early buyers were divided among the stores in Thailand and Malaysia, or if the iPhone’s appeal has waned, but the number of people queuing outside the Apple Store on Orchard Road was significantly lower than in previous launches.

However, one constant remains: the iPhone 16 Pro Max in Desert Titan color is almost sold out across all storage options.

Meanwhile, a survey of early buyers revealed that other color options are less favored, and there are significantly fewer orders for the Pro model compared to the 16 Pro Max.

The appeal of the Desert Titan color is so strong that every customer exiting the Apple Store was approached by resellers, mostly Vietnamese, offering to buy the phones at a markup of SGD 150 to 190.

In the Vietnamese market, the iPhone 16 Series will go on sale a week later than the major markets, on September 27th, with prices very close to those suggested by the Apple Store Online.
