The road project along the Dong Nai River from Hoa An Bridge to Vinh Cuu District is expediting land clearance. This 100-year-old riverside villa is also subject to clearance, with 2/3 of its area to be demolished for road construction.

This is the ancient villa of Doc Phu Vo Ha Thanh, commonly known as “nha lau ong Phu” (Mr. Phu’s villa)

Previously, the villa served as a filming location for the movie ” Nguoi dep Tay Do” (The Beauty of Tay Do)

The villa was built in 1922 with French architecture and completed two years later.

After 100 years, the ancient villa is not just an architectural heritage but also a cultural symbol, attracting many tourists visiting the Dong Nai River tourist route to stop by and admire.

The villa is also associated with stories of the historic flood of 1952, when it served as a refuge for over 100 local residents in the Buu Long market area.

The villa is currently being preserved by the descendants of Doc Phu Vo Ha Thanh.

The traces of time are evident on the doors, balconies, tiles, and walls of this 100-year-old villa.

With the construction of the road along the Dong Nai River (5.2 km long with a total investment of 1,300 billion VND), the People’s Committee of Bien Hoa City cleared the land, including the area with the ancient villa, for handover to the contractor.

According to the investor, 2/3 of the house is within the project’s scope and needs to be demolished, while the owner wishes to preserve it.

So far, the local authorities have cleared about 2/3 of the land, with a progress rate of about 65%. The contractor is focusing on road foundation work, including grading, gravel paving, asphalt concrete, and drainage systems in some sections.

Mr. Tran Quang Toai, Chairman of the Dong Nai Historical Science Association, stated that the house holds historical and cultural significance as it was built at the same time as the Administrative Office of Bien Hoa in the early 20th century. Additionally, all construction materials were imported from France, enhancing its architectural value.

Mr. Tran Quang Toai also suggested that preserving this ancient villa would create a stronger cultural, historical, and tourist connection along the Dong Nai River, linking the villa with other ancient structures in the area.

On September 20, the People’s Committee of Dong Nai Province organized a survey team comprising representatives from the Department of Construction, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Historical Science Association, and leaders of Bien Hoa City to consider conservation options.

After inspecting the site and considering the owner’s wishes, the Department of Construction compiled the opinions of the departments and branches for submission to the People’s Committee of Dong Nai Province for consideration and decision.
