Speaking at the event, Mr. Agustaviano Sofjan emphasized the deep cooperation between Indonesia and Vietnam in trade, investment, and tourism.
Indonesia has seen investments from numerous Indonesian businesses in Vietnam, such as Japfa (employing over 5,000 workers), Dynaplast, Samudera Shipping, and Impack Vietnam. Simultaneously, Indonesian market has attracted investments from prominent Vietnamese brands like Vinfast and Dien May Xanh.
Being fellow members of ASEAN, Vietnam and Indonesia share similarities in many traded goods, yet there remains ample room for collaboration. For instance, in the coffee industry, both countries could combine their unique resources to create distinctive coffee blends.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Nam, Deputy Director of VCCI-HCM, echoed the Indonesian Consul General’s suggestion, expressing his hope for future coffee brands that combine ingredients from both countries.
According to the reporter’s understanding, Vietnam is the second-largest coffee producer globally, while Indonesia ranks fourth, with nearly 50% of Vietnam’s output. However, while Vietnam exports 80% of its coffee production, Indonesia exports a smaller proportion due to its high domestic consumption. Indonesia also excels in processing and is renowned for its diverse specialty coffees.
In the past, coffee businesses have engaged in trade, but it has not lived up to its potential.

According to VCCI-HCM, Indonesia is currently Vietnam’s third-largest trading partner within ASEAN, while Vietnam is Indonesia’s fourth-largest. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, bilateral trade continued to grow positively, increasing from $9 billion in 2019 to nearly $14 billion in 2023.
In 2023, Vietnam experienced a trade deficit with Indonesia, with imports valued at $9 billion and exports at just over $5 billion.
Notably, the event included a lucky draw to select three Vietnamese entrepreneurs to participate in a forum hosted by the Indonesian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, where they will be invited to network and explore collaborative opportunities with the Indonesian market.
