The expansion project of Nguyen Hoang Ton street, stretching from Tay Ho District Party Committee to Pham Van Dong street, was approved to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi. However, it has remained stagnant and shows no signs of development.

As per the plan, the expanded road will feature a massive 40-meter-wide cross-section with four lanes for motor vehicles. Accompanying this expansion are additional constructions, including a drainage system, paved sidewalks, streetlights, and greenery.

As observed by our reporters, the road expansion project has yet to commence. The street remains lined with makeshift workshops and temporary housing, and the road surface is riddled with potholes, posing hazards to commuters.

Nguyen Hoang Ton street is a vital transportation artery, accommodating a substantial volume of traffic and connecting to two major roads: Pham Van Dong and Vo Chi Cong. It also intersects with the Ring Road 2.5. Despite its significance, the project remains stagnant with no signs of progress.

Currently, the road accommodates only two lanes, leading to frequent congestion and gridlock during peak hours.

The implementation of this project will entail the relocation and resettlement of hundreds of households residing along the route.

Makeshift workshops and temporary housing line both sides of the road.

“I’ve been living in this area for over a decade now, and I’ve heard about the road expansion project for a long time. This road is full of potholes, causing daily traffic jams, and it floods during the rain. The surrounding area is filled with workshops and makeshift rentals, and few people build tall houses. I hope the project will be implemented soon so that people can renovate and stabilize their lives,” shared Quoc Dai from Bac Tu Liem.

The road frequently bears the brunt of heavy truck traffic.

The road surface is deteriorating, with numerous potholes creating hazards for motorists.

Several sections along the route lack sidewalks, forcing pedestrians to walk on the road.

Piles of garbage along Nguyen Hoang Ton street create an eyesore and detract from the area’s aesthetics.

The intersection of Nguyen Hoang Ton and Pham Van Dong streets, near the Thang Long Bridge, experiences severe bottlenecks.
