The Mighty Ben Tre: Unveiling a 2,200 Billion VND Bridge Project

With a substantial investment of approximately 2,255 billion VND, the Ba Lai 8 Bridge stands as the flagship project of this initiative.

On September 26, the People’s Committee of Ben Tre province held a press conference to announce the province’s Investment Promotion Conference 2024, scheduled for October 2-3. According to the plan, besides the investment promotion conference and a workshop on renewable energy, Ben Tre will also commence the construction of the Ba Lai 8 Bridge and initiate the Coastal Road Project connecting Ben Tre, Tien Giang, and Tra Vinh provinces.

The Ba Lai 8 Bridge project includes a main bridge over 536 meters long and 22.5 meters wide, with approach roads totaling about 12 kilometers in length (along with several smaller bridges and intersections). The structure is designed for four lanes for automobiles and two mixed-use lanes, with a speed limit of 80 km/h. Spanning the Ba Lai River, it will connect Binh Dai and Ba Tri districts in Ben Tre province. The total investment for the project is estimated at VND 2,255 billion, with nearly VND 1,500 billion coming from central government support and the remainder from local budgets.

Mr. Duong Van Phuc, Director of the Ben Tre Department of Planning and Investment, stated that the investment promotion conference offers an opportunity for the locality to introduce its potential, strengths, development orientations, and investment opportunities to domestic and foreign investors. It also demonstrates the province’s commitment and assurance to businesses and investors.

Mr. Nguyen Truc Son, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ben Tre province, shared that during the period of 2026-2030, the province will focus its development efforts towards the East. This includes significant investments along the coastal road, resettlement of residents, and the development of coastal urban areas. Additionally, the province will prioritize infrastructure development to support the logistics and energy sectors.

In the first nine months of 2024, Ben Tre province granted investment certificates to five new projects, including one foreign-invested project (worth over USD 2.6 million) and four domestic projects (worth over VND 82 billion). Currently, the province has 330 valid investment projects, including 68 foreign-invested projects (over USD 1.6 billion) and more than 260 domestic projects (over VND 59,500 billion).
