Moreover, they will disseminate policies, legal regulations, exemplary practices, and successful models related to sustainable production and consumption, energy saving and efficiency, promotion of circular economy, response to climate change, and green growth in these industries.

Especially, the policies, regulations, and standards related to sustainable production and consumption, energy saving and efficiency, circular economy, climate change response, and green growth in the textile, cotton fiber, and footwear industries in Vietnam will be developed, improved, and applied to match practical needs and meet international requirements, regulations, and commitments…

Speaking at the event, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lam Giang, Director of the Department of Energy Saving and Sustainable Development (Ministry of Industry and Trade), said that the textile and footwear industries are key export industries, playing an important role in Vietnam’s economy, contributing to economic growth, job creation, promoting a new cultural lifestyle, and developing global value chains.

In the past, the textile and footwear industries have made significant contributions to the country’s economy, but they also face competitive pressures and challenges regarding resource and energy use, environmental pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions.

The collaboration between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and IDH, associations, and relevant stakeholders within the framework of this Memorandum of Understanding will contribute to promoting the application and replication of sustainable development models, expanding markets for environmentally friendly products, enhancing the competitiveness of domestic textile and footwear enterprises, and contributing to Vietnam’s international commitments on sustainable development and climate change in the future.

According to Ms. Giang, along with the National Action Program on Sustainable Production and Consumption and Energy Saving and Efficiency, the Ministry has implemented several tasks to support businesses in general and textile and footwear enterprises in particular in piloting some solutions and models for sustainable production and consumption and energy saving and efficiency.

“In the future, in addition to the above tasks, the Ministry will continue to implement tasks related to the circular economy in the field of industry and trade. Through cooperation with IDH and associations, supporting textile and footwear enterprises will be one of the prioritized contents,” emphasized Ms. Giang.

Mr. Pramit Chanda, Global Director of the IDH’s Textile and Manufacturing Program, shared that the memorandum of understanding marks an important step forward in promoting sustainable production and consumption, improving energy efficiency, and fostering circular economic models.
