To support local businesses in the final months of 2024, the Hanoi Center for Employment Services has organized daily job fairs from Monday to Friday. In addition, the center also hosts mobile and online job fairs that connect various northern provinces and cities, helping businesses expand their labor recruitment sources.
LABOR “HUNT” EVERYWHERE
The last months of the year mark the peak production season not only for the textile and footwear industries but also for many other sectors. This has led to a rush in labor recruitment, making the task of hiring more challenging. Mr. Wuzong Sheng, General Director of Green Precision Components Vietnam Co., Ltd. in Bac Ninh province, shared: “As the company plans to scale up its production activities, we anticipate a need for at least 500 to 1,000 additional workers. The most challenging aspect is recruiting technical workers due to the intense competition for labor among companies in Bac Ninh.”
Similarly, in Bac Giang province, Mr. Ngo Quyen Thang, Chairman of the Trade Union of the Industry and Trade sector, said that as of now, the local garment businesses have just finished producing winter orders (from May to August). They are now entering the peak season (from October to December) to prepare for next summer’s orders. “The garment companies are continuously recruiting workers. However, it is currently very difficult to find employees as most laborers prefer to work in the industrial parks,” said Mr. Ngo Duc Thang.
According to observations, wood industry businesses in Binh Duong province are also starting to recruit workers again for year-end orders. In Tan Uyen city, Mr. Hoang Thanh Dung, an employee of Rev Up 24H Human Resource Solutions Co., Ltd., is recruiting workers for 10 companies in Binh Duong, with a demand for over 1,000 laborers. “Many companies accept workers who are unfamiliar with the job and will provide training. We have even gone to the Central Highlands provinces to find labor, but we can only recruit a small number as it is the agricultural harvest season,” shared Mr. Dung.
In Ho Chi Minh City, Pouyuen Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Binh Tan district) has been seeking to hire more than 2,000 workers for several months to meet their year-end production plans. However, despite using multiple channels, the company has only been able to recruit half of its target. Facing difficulties in finding labor in the city, the company has expanded its search to other localities with shuttle bus services. “We are not only looking for labor for new orders, but we also need to recruit in advance for the group of workers who will leave after the Lunar New Year. For many years, about 1,000-2,000 workers have not returned to work after the holiday,” the company representative said.
“Businesses face challenges in retaining long-term employees. Highly qualified workers tend to prefer temporary work and are not keen on signing long-term contracts with the company,” said Ms. Kieu Ngoc Hoa, Human Resources Director of Samsung HCMC CE Complex (Thu Duc City), at a meeting with representatives of the Employment Bureau, Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs. Both the company and the employees are facing difficulties due to the limit of 300 overtime hours per year. This affects not only the company’s production activities and human resource plans but also restrains the income of the workers.
Similarly, Mr. Pham Quang Anh, Director of Dony Garment Company (Binh Tan district), acknowledged that workers have a high demand for overtime to increase their income. “Nowadays, even skilled workers are in a position to choose the company they prefer, unlike before when companies selected employees. Therefore, companies with fewer overtime hours will find it more challenging to retain workers,” he added.
