A notable point in the report, the review report of the draft Law on Teachers presented at the 8th session of the 15th National Assembly, was about the retirement age of teachers. Accordingly, the retirement age of teachers is separately regulated to suit the characteristics of their profession.

Specifically, teachers in preschool educational institutions who wish to do so may retire at a younger age, up to 5 years earlier than the stipulated age, without any reduction in their retirement benefits. Professors, associate professors, or teachers with a doctoral degree and those working in specialized and specialized fields will enjoy a higher retirement age…

On this issue, the National Assembly’s Social Affairs Committee agreed to allow teachers in preschool education institutions to retire at a younger age (up to 5 years earlier) than stipulated in the Labor Code and without any reduction in retirement benefits. However, the impact of this policy on resource allocation needs to be carefully assessed.

In addition to teaching children, preschool teachers must regularly make teaching aids and decorate classrooms

This is good news for preschool teachers as the majority of them wish to retire at the age of 55 to ensure they have the health and energy to complete their work in the best possible way.

Closely following the feedback on the Law on Teachers, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuong, a preschool teacher in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City, expressed her joy as, in the past time, many experts, lawyers, and National Assembly deputies have sympathized with the idea of allowing preschool teachers to retire earlier.

With over 10 years of experience working at a preschool, Ms. Phuong knows firsthand how demanding the job can be. Her daily work hours often exceed 8 hours as she has to arrive early to welcome the children and stay late to see them off. Weekends and breaks are often spent making teaching aids and decorating classrooms, and their summer vacation is shorter compared to other educational levels…

Moreover, taking care of and teaching children at the preschool age requires constant physical activity, as teachers have to welcome, support, and comfort the children while also handling countless unexpected situations…

“With the responsibility and pressure of the job constantly increasing, retiring at the age of 60 may hinder our ability to maintain the agility and precision required for this work. Therefore, it is suggested that preschool teachers be allowed to retire at an earlier age,” shared Ms. Phuong.
