The Deputy Prime Minister concluded that the expressway projects in the Mekong Delta are of great importance to the country, creating a new driving force for the region’s development. The workload in the coming time for each project is still very large, requiring the initiative, flexibility, and creativity of the levels, branches, localities, and central agencies to implement policies and mechanisms.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested the units to strictly follow the directions of the Prime Minister and strive to meet the goal of completing the Can Tho-Ca Mau Expressway project by 2025 and basically completing the entire Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang Expressway route by 2026.

The Ministry of Transport (MoT) was assigned to urgently coordinate with localities, project management units, and contractors to review and synthesize sand supply capacity to ensure the progress of each project. They should also consider using sea sand and report to the Prime Minister. The Ministry of Transport, together with managing agencies, investors, project management units, and contractors, should closely monitor the work and proactively work with localities to speed up the progress of licensing for material exploitation. Absolutely do not let the projects be delayed due to a lack of sand, gravel, and stone materials.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) was asked to urgently research and propose an evaluation of the total reserves of river and sea sand in the Mekong Delta region.

The Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Construction to review and coordinate with relevant ministries and branches to review standards and processes for treating sea sand to serve construction and filling. This will provide a basis for localities to research and pilot implementation for works and projects in the area.

The Ministry of Home Affairs, in coordination with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and localities, was assigned to urgently complete the determination of the sea boundary of the localities. For now, the People’s Committee of Soc Trang province will exploit sea sand at the licensed B1.3 mine to provide sand for key expressway projects in the Mekong Delta region.
