The coastal city of Sam Son in Thanh Hoa province has just held a conference to review its tourism performance in 2024 and deploy development plans for the upcoming year of 2025.
Mr. Le Van Tu, Chairman of Sam Son City People’s Committee, shared that in 2024, Sam Son tourism continued to affirm its leading position in the province, being a captivating, friendly, and safe destination for travelers.
During this period, Sam Son welcomed approximately 8.86 million visitors, equivalent to 109.3% compared to the previous year, and surpassing the set plan by 104.3%. The city’s tourism revenue reached an impressive milestone, totaling over VND 17,000 billion, a substantial increase of 140.6% from the previous year and 108.8% of the planned target.
According to Mr. Tu, the remarkable achievements in 2024 can be attributed to the introduction of new tourist attractions and products, such as the Sea Square and the axis of the Sam Son Sea Festival landscape, as well as the SunWorld Water Park, all of which have left a lasting impression and attracted a large number of locals and tourists alike.
Additionally, the city collaborated with the provincial tourism industry to successfully organize a series of cultural, sports, and tourism events that left a lasting impression on both friends and visitors.
Looking ahead to 2025, Mr. Tu shared the vision of transforming Sam Son into a civilized, modern, and hospitable coastal urban area. To achieve this, the city will accelerate the development of the southern area, focusing on resort tourism and culinary services for visitors. Simultaneously, Sam Son will continue to facilitate favorable conditions for domestic and foreign enterprises to invest in tourism infrastructure, especially entertainment and high-end dining services.
Particularly, the city will concentrate on refining night-time economic services (night markets, walking streets, etc.) to attract high-paying customers who are likely to have longer stays, with the expectation of redistributing the tourist flow both spatially and temporally.
With these strategic initiatives, Sam Son sets ambitious goals for 2025, aiming to welcome 9.68 million visitors and achieve a tourism revenue of VND 21,000 billion.
While acknowledging the accomplishments, the city’s leadership also frankly addressed existing limitations and challenges in the local tourism industry, including the need to enhance service quality and increase value, tackle issues like pavement encroachment and improper parking of electric four-wheelers and cyclo, and improve administrative procedures to create a more favorable investment environment.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thi, Standing Vice Chairman of the Thanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, emphasized the importance of focusing on infrastructure and technical facilities development to support tourism. He also suggested accelerating administrative reforms to create a more favorable investment environment and attract strategic investors and well-known enterprises. Additionally, Mr. Thi recommended that Sam Son explore organizing cultural, sports, and tourism events during the off-season, involving local tourism businesses in the “Sam Son Winter – Thrilling Experiences” campaign, offering significant discounts and diverse auxiliary services to promote year-round tourism. He encouraged the introduction of at least one new tourism product annually.
