The Management Board of Hanoi Urban Railway has released information regarding the construction project of the Nam Thang Long – Tran Hung Dao metro line.

On December 16, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son signed a decision approving the adjustment of the investment policy for the construction project of Hanoi Urban Railway Line 2, Nam Thang Long – Tran Hung Dao section (Line 2.1). This is an important transportation project, contributing to the development of a modern and sustainable public transport system for the capital.

The approved adjustment of the investment policy for the project includes:

The total length of the line is 11.5km, consisting of 8.9km underground and 2.6km elevated, with 7 underground stations and 3 elevated stations.

The transport system includes 10 trains with 4 carriages each, double-track standard gauge of 1,435mm, and a depot in Xuan Dinh, Bac Tu Liem district, with an area of 17.5 hectares.

The preliminary total investment capital for the project is VND 35,588 billion (an increase of over 80% compared to the initial plan). Of which, VND 29,672 billion is ODA loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under the Special Terms for Economic Partnership (STEP); VND 5,916 billion is the counterpart capital of Hanoi city. The project implementation period is from 2009 to 2031.

“After the approval of the adjusted investment policy, the project will proceed to mobilize the general consultant again to implement the project adjustment for the Hanoi People’s Committee to approve and start construction from 2025,” said the representative of the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board.

Metro Line 2 forms an important backbone, connecting the inner city, Noi Bai airport, and the northern urban area of Hanoi. The entire line consists of the following sections: Nam Thang Long – Tran Hung Dao (Line 2.1), Tran Hung Dao – Thuong Dinh (Line 2.2), and Noi Bai – Nam Thang Long (Line 2.3).

“In addition to the benefits of transportation and the environment, this urban railway line also plays a crucial role in the development of tourism and urban architecture in the capital.

The planning of Line 2, combining the radial and ring directions, not only increases connectivity but also helps to disperse passengers away from the city center, reducing travel time and optimizing the efficiency of the entire system.

This is an important step in building a modern, synchronous, and sustainable transport network for the capital, meeting the requirements of socio-economic development and improving the quality of life for Hanoi residents,” emphasized the representative of the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board.
