The 500 kV Monsoon – Thanh My Project, invested by the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) with the Electricity Project Management Board 2 (EVNPMB2) as the investor’s representative, has been completed. This project contributes an additional 600MW of power to the national grid during the 2024-2025 period.

The construction in Vietnam is located in Nam Giang district, Quang Nam province, spanning approximately 44.71 km, with a total investment of over VND 1,100 billion. It is a double-circuit line connecting the Monsoon Wind Power Plant cluster (in Laos) to the 500 kV Thanh My substation in Quang Nam province.

Despite challenges in forest use conversion, site clearance, rugged terrain, and harsh weather conditions, the project was completed 40 days ahead of schedule, adhering to the approved design. All 90 concrete foundations were constructed, 90 steel towers erected, and 28 wire spans installed successfully.

The 500 kV Monsoon – Thanh My power line can transmit a maximum capacity of 2,500 MW, enhancing the operation of the national power system by importing electricity from Laos.

According to EVN, once the Monsoon Wind Power Plant in Laos is completed, this transmission line will receive imported electricity with a capacity of 600 MW, expecting an annual output of about 1.7 billion kWh.
