According to the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC), the section from Hanoi to Ha Tinh has 2 fully-equipped stations and 4 temporary stations, with an average distance of 60-70km per station. In contrast, the section from Ho Chi Minh City to Khanh Hoa boasts 1 fully-equipped station and 5 temporary ones, also spaced at an average of 60-70km per station.

Regarding rest stops, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Highway Bureau, Nguyen Quang Giang, shared that the bureau has signed contracts with investors for 8 rest stations along the North-South Expressway. These include the Mai Son-National Highway 45, Nghi Son – Dien Chau, Dien Chau – Bai Vot, Nha Trang – Cam Lam, Cam Lam – Vinh Hao, Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet (2 stations), and Phan Thiet – Dau Giay projects.

As of now, 2 stations are being constructed: Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet (at Km205+092) and Phan Thiet – Dau Giay. These are on track to meet the deadline for temporary operation during the Lunar New Year holiday.

In terms of site clearance, 3 stations have been handed over with sufficient conditions for deployment, 2 stations have been partially handed over, and the remaining 3 are awaiting clearance.

The 4 rest stops won by the PetroVietnam Oil Corporation (Petrolimex) consortium are undergoing internal procedures (design approval, contractor selection, etc.) before construction can commence. The other 2 stations, won by the Futabuslines – Thanh Hiep Phat joint venture, are also in the internal procedure stage.

Despite contracts being signed with investors since August 2024, the Deputy Director of the Vietnam Highway Bureau acknowledged that the progress of the rest stops has been delayed due to challenges in site clearance. As a result, construction by investors is expected to commence in the first quarter of this year.

The Vietnam Highway Bureau has requested that investors expedite construction, focusing on completing essential areas such as restrooms and parking lots to serve travelers from the initial stages. Meanwhile, the project management boards are expediting site clearance to ensure the overall progress of the project.

For the stations that have been taken over, the Bureau has instructed the investors to incorporate feedback from the Road Management Unit, the Traffic Police Department, and other relevant units to enhance traffic safety and environmental sanitation. Of the 6 temporary stations, 5 are already operational, and 1 is nearing completion, meeting the deadline for inauguration before January 23rd.

Some temporary stations, implemented by the project management boards before April 30, 2024, had to be discontinued due to safety concerns and potential traffic hazards. These include the temporary stations at the Truong Vinh and Than Vu tunnels (northern area) and the temporary works at Km199 (opposite direction) under the Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet project in the southern region.
