On December 11th, the Management Authority of Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railways (the investor) announced that it had signed and handed over conditional certificates of acceptance to the NJPT Consulting Joint Venture and Hitachi Contractor for Package CP3 (Electromechanical Equipment Procurement, Locomotives and Coaches, and Tracks) of Metro Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien). This package is valued at over VND 13,200 billion.
On the same day, the Management Authority of Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railways handed over the assets of Package CP3 – Metro Line No. 1 to the Urban Railway One-Member Co., Ltd. (HURC1, the operator of Metro Line No. 1). This is one of the procedures for the investor and HURC1 to master the operation of equipment and trains.

In addition to Package CP3, the construction packages of Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line No. 1 project also include: CP1a (underground section from Ben Thanh Station to Opera House Station), CP1b (underground section from Opera House Station to Ba Son Station), and CP2 (elevated section and Depot).
Previously, Package CP1b was handed over to the investor by the Shimizu – Maeda contractor joint venture.
Metro Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien) is the first metro project in Ho Chi Minh City. The 19.7km-long project consists of a 2.6km underground section and a 17.1km elevated section, with a total investment of over VND 47,000 billion from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) ODA loans and counterpart funds from the city’s budget.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Authority, the on-site construction volume of Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line No. 1 project has reached 100%. The Management Authority and HURC1 are working with consultants and contractors to urgently complete the remaining procedures to meet the conditions for the acceptance of the entire project and officially operate Metro Line No. 1 on December 22nd.
On the morning of December 11th, at the 20th session (the last regular session of the year) of the 10th term, the delegates voted to pass a resolution on the policy to support users of public passenger transport by bus and train and the policy to support the operating expenses of public passenger transport by bus and train in the city. Accordingly, the People’s Council of Ho Chi Minh City decided to allocate the budget to support 100% of the fare for passengers using public transport by train on the urban railway line No. 1 (Metro Line No. 1: Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien) within 30 days from the first day of commercial operation. After this period, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to support 100% of the fare for Metro Line No. 1 for people with revolutionary merits, people with disabilities, the elderly, and children under 6 years old. |
