Mr. Nguyen Dang Quang, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Masan Group, has sent a heartfelt letter to the company’s employees.
According to Mr. Quang, the recent announcement of the US trade policy towards Vietnam is expected to negatively impact the country’s economy and consumer confidence if an agreement is not reached. He assures that Masan’s business will remain resilient due to its focus on the domestic market and essential products and services.
Addressing concerns about potential disruptions to Masan’s operations, Mr. Quang provides several reasons why the proposed US tariffs will have a minimal impact on the company’s performance and prospects:
- The US market contributes less than 1% of Masan Consumer’s revenue.
- Masan High-Tech Materials’ core products are currently exempt from the announced tariffs.
- WinCommerce continues to offer competitive prices for essential goods compared to other market channels.
Vietnam has proposed a 0% tax rate to the US, which will reduce raw material costs for Masan’s convenience food and meat businesses and lower production costs.
Mr. Quang emphasizes that while Masan remains vigilant, their business model focusing on consumer staples and retail makes them less vulnerable to the direct impact of new US tariffs. The company is actively monitoring the situation and developing business strategies to adapt to potential tariff scenarios.
The key, according to Mr. Quang, is to implement flexible pricing strategies and maintain a relevant product portfolio to minimize any potential impact on consumer psychology. He acknowledges that this task is challenging, but expresses confidence in Masan’s ability to overcome obstacles, referencing their history of navigating through macro challenges and maintaining stable growth in revenue and profits during global financial crises and the pandemic.
In closing, Mr. Quang reassures employees, stating, “Despite market uncertainties, we remain steadfast in our long-term vision, focused on our consumer-retail foundation, and committed to serving consumers and adapting to all economic conditions.”
