“Texas Chicken, Jollibee, and KFC Vietnam Combat Social Media Impersonators”
Just hours after KFC Vietnam issued a warning about trademark impersonation on social media, Jollibee Vietnam and Texas Chicken Vietnam followed suit.
On May 10th, Texas Chicken Vietnam, an American fried chicken brand, posted on their official fanpage that they have recently identified numerous accounts impersonating their brand on social media platforms such as Facebook and TikTok.
These fake channels not only illegally use their logo, images, and brand name, but they also risk misinforming and confusing customers.

The brand cautioned that any content not originating from their official channels does not represent their voice and may pose risks to users.
Texas Chicken entered the Vietnamese market in late 2012 and currently has 30 restaurants across major cities, including Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Nha Trang, Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Bien Hoa.
On the same day, Jollibee Vietnam, a popular fast-food chain, issued a similar warning about fake accounts using their brand name, especially on TikTok. These accounts illegally use Jollibee’s name and images, spreading misleading and negative information that affects customers’ experiences.

KFC Vietnam had also raised concerns on May 9th about trademark impersonation and fake restaurant accounts on Facebook and TikTok, spreading inaccurate content and messages that seriously misrepresent the brand.
To protect consumers, all three fried chicken brands included links to their official social media accounts in their statements.
A surge of fake accounts impersonating Texas Chicken Vietnam, Jollibee, and KFC Vietnam has been observed on TikTok and Facebook. These accounts use similar names and logos to comment on various videos, promoting controversial and offensive statements that cause misunderstandings.

From a legal perspective, Lawyer Truong Van Tuan, Head of Trang Saigon Law Office, cited Article 12 of the Law on Information Technology 2006, which prohibits “distorting, slandering, or offending the honor, dignity, and reputation of organizations and citizens.”
He explained that impersonating an organization’s or individual’s web page is considered a prohibited and illegal act. According to Clause 3, Article 99 of Decree 15/2020/ND-CP, amended by Clause 1, Article 1, Decree 14/2022/ND-CP, penalties for such acts include fines of up to VND 30 million, confiscation of means of violation, and mandatory removal of all misleading and false information.
More severely, these actions could lead to criminal charges under Article 155 of the 2015 Criminal Code for “insulting others.”
If the authorities find that the impersonation and subsequent misleading statements seriously insult the honor and dignity of individuals or organizations, the perpetrators could face criminal charges and imprisonment of up to five years, along with additional penalties.
“To avoid penalties and legal consequences, people should refrain from creating impersonator channels, regardless of their intentions,” advised Mr. Tuan.
