Mitsubishi is gearing up for the electric vehicle revolution with not one but two new models. Both are slated for launch in the latter half of 2026, each targeting a distinct market.

The first, a Nissan Leaf-based electric crossover set to debut soon, will be sold in North America. Additionally, Mitsubishi is collaborating with Foxconn to develop another electric vehicle for the Australian market.

This Leaf-based crossover is expected to arrive at dealerships in the US and Canada by summer 2026. If it is indeed based on the Leaf, this SUV/crossover will be similar in size to the Xforce. However, its design could differ significantly from the Xforce.

Based on the new Nissan Leaf, we can envision a similar Mitsubishi-branded crossover with a sloping roof and identical LED lights. At this stage, it’s unclear if there will be any other notable differences between this Mitsubishi electric vehicle and the Nissan version, aside from the Mitsubishi logo.

This new electric vehicle will utilize the CMF-EV platform, just like the upcoming Nissan Leaf, and will feature a single electric motor. This means that, like the Nissan Ariya, it won’t offer an all-wheel-drive option. However, Mitsubishi has confirmed that the Leaf-based model will include a NACS charging port and target a range of over 482 kilometers.

In return, Mitsubishi is supporting Nissan with a plug-in hybrid version of the Nissan Rogue (known as the X-Trail in some markets), due for release in 2026 as a rebadged version of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. The Nissan X-Trail plug-in hybrid will be sold alongside gasoline and self-charging hybrid variants, with distinct styling cues to set them apart. Mitsubishi’s goal is, of course, to “strengthen the partnership with Nissan” through these electrified vehicles.

Beyond expanding its electric vehicle lineup, Mitsubishi’s Momentum 2030 plan also includes a new approach to retail and a broader dealer network in North America. This initiative is designed to boost sales across the region.

Furthermore, Mitsubishi has signed a memorandum of understanding with Foxtron, an electric vehicle subsidiary of tech giant Foxconn, confirming earlier reports of a potential collaboration. This will result in a new Mitsubishi electric vehicle developed by Foxtron and produced by Yulon Motor in Taiwan.

This yet-to-be-named model will be introduced in Australia and New Zealand in the latter half of 2026. Mitsubishi states that the vehicle will offer “superior driving performance as an electric vehicle” and be equipped with an “advanced infotainment system.” While unconfirmed, the new model could be a rebadged version of the Foxtron Model B designed by Pininfarina, first unveiled in 2022.

While the deal is nearly finalized, both Mitsubishi and Foxtron have stated that they will continue discussions before officially signing off. Aside from the Foxtron-developed electric vehicle for the Oceania region, Mitsubishi’s broader strategy includes models developed in-house for ASEAN, Renault-based vehicles for Europe, and Nissan-based models for North America.
