Yamaha Motor Vietnam has introduced two attractive compensation options for customers owning motorcycles suspected of having their engine numbers tampered with, from the production lot between October 2021 and November 2024. The options include a free new motorcycle replacement or a full refund of the vehicle’s purchase price. This program will be effective until March 2026.

With Option 1, customers can choose a new motorcycle from available Yamaha models at the dealership, free of additional cost. If they select a higher-priced motorcycle, they only pay the difference; if the new motorcycle is less expensive, Yamaha will refund the surplus amount. The company will also cover all costs associated with the repurchase of the old motorcycle, support the sales procedures, and handle the vehicle registration and license plate transfer, along with other legal costs as applicable.

Option 2 allows customers to receive a full refund of the motorcycle’s value based on the price listed at the time of the transaction. Yamaha will inspect and evaluate the motorcycle within 14 working days and then inform the customer of the results. Motorcycles confirmed to have tampered engine numbers will be guided through the necessary procedures for recall and transaction with the dealership or relevant authorities.

However, Yamaha notes that the compensation policy does not apply to motorcycles that have been discarded, are unusable due to damage, or have engine numbers altered as a result of accidents, unauthorized repairs, or violations of the law that are not the manufacturer’s fault.

Previously, on March 5, 2025, Yamaha announced the recall of approximately 160,000 motorcycles produced between October 2021 and November 2024 due to suspected engine number tampering. The inspection and rectification program commenced on March 4, 2025, and will continue until March 4, 2026, at Yamaha dealerships nationwide.
