Jollibee Vietnam, a popular multinational fast-food chain originating from the Philippines, recently issued a fraud alert on its Facebook fan page, which boasts an impressive 952k followers. The brand has uncovered a scam where its website is being impersonated for fraudulent purposes.

In addition to its official website, Jollibee Vietnam maintains a strong presence on five major social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Threads, and YouTube. On TikTok alone, Jollibee Vietnam has a dedicated account, @jollibee_vietnam, with a substantial following of 41.5k fans. The brand provided direct links to all its official social media accounts in the fraud alert announcement.

Apart from the website impersonation, Jollibee Vietnam has also encountered a surge of fake accounts on social media, particularly on TikTok. These accounts, often named after various locations such as Binh Duong, Binh Thanh, Kien Giang, and Ca Mau, use Jollibee’s avatar and actively engage in comment spamming on viral posts. This tactic has led many to believe that these accounts belong to Jollibee branches across the nation, when in fact, they are imposters using the brand’s name to spread misinformation.

This new trend of impersonation accounts is not only misleading but also detrimental to the brand’s reputation.

It is unclear who initiated this harmful trend or what their intentions are, but it has sparked negative reactions and poses potential risks to the brand.

Firstly, the sheer volume of comments and uncontrolled statements from these fake accounts can be annoying to users. Secondly, many of these imposter accounts associate the Jollibee name with inappropriate and offensive language, which is certainly not something any brand would want to be associated with.

Over the past few years, Jollibee has cultivated a friendly and approachable image, with its mascot, the chef bee, often going viral on social media for playful interactions with customers, embracing trends, and even lighthearted banter with people who choose rival fast-food brands.

Tony Tan, the founder of Jollibee, once explained the choice of the bee as their mascot, saying, “The bee flies around and makes sweet things for life, and it’s happy even when busy” in an interview with The Economist in 2002.
