In 2025, three localities in Vietnam, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ninh Binh, are strengthening their collaboration to develop sustainable tourism journeys with the aim of branding and creating tourism products that fit new trends. This move is particularly relevant as sustainable tourism becomes a global trend.
CREATING INTER-PROVINCIAL GREEN TOURISM JOURNEYS, AIMING FOR UNIQUE TOURISM PRODUCTS
Leveraging their potential, the three provinces are capitalizing on their diverse natural landscapes and heritage systems to develop inter-regional products. Specifically, Ninh Binh boasts Cuc Phuong National Park, one of Vietnam’s oldest primeval forests; Thanh Hoa is home to Ben En National Park with its unique lake-forest ecosystem; and Nghe An stands out with Pu Mat National Park, conserving numerous rare flora and fauna.
Beyond nature, the green tourism journey also connects significant cultural and historical sites: from the Lam Kinh Historical Relic Site (Thanh Hoa), the ancient capital of Hoa Lu (Ninh Binh), to the Kim Lien and Truong Bon Relic Sites (Nghe An). These destinations form a tourism route that is both nature-friendly and culturally and spiritually enriching.

In the past, tourism linkage activities among the three provinces have yielded positive results, especially in developing community, ecological, and cultural tours. Some journeys have taken shape and are being effectively exploited by travel enterprises, such as the tour exploring the western region of Nghe An, connecting Pu Mat – Ben En – Trang An; the caravan tour experiencing the Ho Chi Minh trail; and the journey following the ancient capitals of Vietnam (Hoa Lu – Thanh House – King Quang Trung Temple).
Emphasizing the inevitability of green tourism in the modern era, Ms. Vuong Thi Hai Yen, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa Province, shared, “In addition to environmental protection, this model also creates long-term economic and social values. In 2025, the localities will continue to promote the effective exploitation of linked tours, especially green tourism, to brand the region and meet the new demands of tourists.”
The three provinces are promoting the development of distinctive tourism brands such as “Ninh Binh Tourism – The Eternal Ancient Capital,” “Thanh Hoa Tourism – The Four Seasons’ Fragrance,” and “Nghe An Tourism – The Green Journey.” These are the main axes of the regional linkage chain.
PROMOTING DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION AND ENHANCING EXPERIENCES
To enhance connectivity and attract more tourists, the localities will organize fam trips in 2025 with the participation of reputable travel enterprises inside and outside the provinces. The goal is to introduce linked green tourism products, survey, and develop tours suitable for different target customer groups.
Simultaneously, the three provinces will collaborate to research and develop a smart digital tourism map integrating destination information, tour routes, cuisine, and experience schedules for quick reference on mobile phones. Additionally, the establishment of a common fan page on social media platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube will enhance promotion effectiveness and reach a younger audience.

To promote cooperation in developing sustainable inter-regional tourism, Ms. Ta Thi Tu Uyen, Director of Vietravel’s Product and Service Department, suggested, “The three provinces need to create a common tourism story instead of working individually. Additionally, it is necessary to promote the design of an integrated digital map that introduces the itinerary, cuisine, services, entertainment spots, and art programs so that tourists can experience something new every day.”
In addition to daytime activities, some enterprises propose organizing night tourism at unique destinations such as the ancient capitals of Hoa Lu and Lam Kinh and Pu Mat to increase tourists’ length of stay and spending. Concerts featuring famous local singers are also considered cultural catalysts, attracting large numbers of fans.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR INTER-REGIONAL TOURISM AND ATTRACTING INTERNATIONAL VISITORS
Mr. Do Duc Manh, Director of Pu Luong Eco Garden Resort, proposed making Ky Son district (Nghe An) a gateway for international visitors from Laos and Thailand. From there, tourists can move along the Nghe An – Thanh Hoa – Ninh Binh route to experience green tourism, visit heritage sites, and immerse themselves in the local culture.
This itinerary is particularly appealing to Western tourists due to its diversity in terrain, climate, cuisine, and culture. However, to attract this group of tourists, localities need to continuously improve their products, enhance service quality, and ensure sustainability in development.
