Representatives from various Ministries, including Foreign Affairs, Finance, Construction, Agriculture and Rural Development, Science and Technology, as well as associations and export businesses in key sectors such as textiles, footwear, electronics, steel, aluminum, cashew, and mechanics, gathered for a conference hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The event also saw the participation of members of the Government Negotiation Delegation on trade issues with the United States and the Delegation’s support team.

The conference aimed to serve as a platform for industry associations and exporters of key products to the US market to discuss and assess the recent Vietnam-US trade activities, especially after the US President announced high retaliatory tariffs to be imposed on several countries, including Vietnam. Participants also evaluated the importance of the US market for Vietnam’s key export groups and explored alternative markets in case of adverse scenarios. Additionally, the conference facilitated the exchange of information and practical data to demonstrate that Vietnamese exports to the US do not directly compete with or conflict with American interests. Proposed measures for negotiations with the US and market diversification strategies were also discussed to further boost exports.

At the conference, delegates agreed on the following key points:

– The US is a comprehensive strategic partner and a significant export market for Vietnam. Reciprocally, Vietnam is the 8th largest trading partner of the US. American consumers are familiar with and favor Vietnamese products for their quality and competitive pricing.

– Vietnamese goods do not directly compete with domestically produced American goods, thus not harming the interests of American manufacturers and businesses. Instead, they offer American consumers access to quality products at reasonable prices.

– Vietnam’s key export products to the US generally comply with US technical standards regarding specifications and origin. Vietnam is also prepared to address any concerns raised by US importers regarding products made in Vietnam.

– While the US market offers significant potential and advantages for Vietnamese goods, with its large scale and high annual growth rate, it is not the only market with such prospects. Vietnam has 17 free trade agreements with nearly 70 major economies worldwide, providing diverse opportunities for cooperation and trade with other countries and markets.

Through this conference, representatives from central ministries and functional units of the Ministry of Industry and Trade shared information on new regulations and policies in various global markets, provided updates on the US market, and acknowledged the challenges faced by industry associations and major exporters to the US market. They also took note of the associations’ and enterprises’ proposals to address difficulties and obstacles in production and export activities in the coming time.
