This special event commemorates the 71st anniversary of the historic Victory at Dien Bien Phu (May 7, 1954 – May 7, 2025) – a shining milestone in the history of Vietnam’s struggle for independence and national defense.
Dien Bien is a mountainous province in Northwest Vietnam, renowned for its majestic natural beauty and heroic history. It attracts visitors not only with its vast Muong fields and mist-shrouded villages but also as a land intimately linked to the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory, a turning point in the resistance war against French colonialists.
Holding the Flag-Hoisting Ceremony and inaugurating the A Pa Chai Flag Tower on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory further enhances the historical significance, evoking a sense of national pride and determination to safeguard every inch of our sacred homeland.
The A Pa Chải Flag Tower strongly asserts national sovereignty at the frontier of the Fatherland
The construction of the A Pa Chai Flag Tower commenced in November 2023, with the Dien Bien Border Guard Force as the investor and Nam A Bank as the sole financier. The flag tower, standing at a height of 1,459 meters above sea level, is located on a mountain in the Khoang La San range, approximately 1,387 meters from the tri-border marker between Vietnam, China, and Laos, known as Milestone 0. This structure is not merely an aesthetically pleasing architectural masterpiece, designed as a stylized banana flower blooming amidst the northwestern forest, but also a symbol of our nation’s pride, sovereignty, and the indomitable spirit of unity and patriotism.
The flag tower, towering over 45 meters high, features an octagonal design symbolizing stability and majesty. The flag measures 7.5 by 5 meters, with a total area of 37.5 square meters, commemorating the historic victory on May 7. The base of the tower is accentuated with five bas-reliefs depicting characteristic cultural motifs and ethnic patterns of the Northwest region.
