On May 13, 2025, the family and Nanogen Pharmaceutical Biotechnology JSC announced the passing of Dr. Ho Nhan, Chairman of the company’s Board of Directors. He passed away on May 12, 2025, at 4:25 pm at the age of 59, after a brave battle with heart disease.

Dr. Ho Nhan was born in 1966 in Thu Duc, Ho Chi Minh City. He had a strong academic background, holding a doctoral degree from the University of Arizona in the United States.

He returned to Vietnam in 2006 and embarked on a journey to establish a modern pharmaceutical biotechnology foundation.

He was also known as the son-in-law of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Son, the founder of Son Kim Group, one of the influential business families in Ho Chi Minh City.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr. Ho Nhan and his team led Nanogen to become the first private entity in Vietnam to research and develop the Nanocovax vaccine against Covid-19.

Beyond biotechnology, Mr. Ho Nhan ventured into the financial sector. In April 2013, he joined the Board of Directors of Vina Securities Company during a period of losses for the company. He served on the board from April 2013 to September 2017.

While residing in the United States, he was involved in numerous mergers and acquisitions in the healthcare industry, encompassing pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and hospitals. He also led a team responsible for valuing healthcare stocks for a Hong Kong-based investment fund with assets worth billions of dollars. He was once a major shareholder of One World Service JSC (ONW), owning 15.8% of the company’s shares as of the end of 2016.

“The legacy left by Dr. Ho Nhan includes not only scientific and technological achievements but also inspiration for young generations to dedicate themselves to serving society with knowledge and dedication,” the Nanogen statement read.

The funeral of Dr. Ho Nhan will be held according to Catholic rituals at his residence in Thu Duc City. The burial will take place on the morning of May 16, 2025, at the Phuc An Vien Cemetery in District 9, Ho Chi Minh City.

In 2019, KIS Securities Joint Stock Company reportedly invested nearly VND 11.6 billion to acquire 162,500 shares of Nanogen during the company’s capital raise. This transaction valued each share at over VND 71,000, as per the financial report.
