Toyota has an extensive range of vehicles across various segments in Vietnam. However, there are still some segments where the brand is not present, such as the C-segment SUV market. Currently, this segment is dominated by competitors like the Mazda CX-5, Ford Territory, and Hyundai Tucson.

Toyota bZ4X, an electric SUV, was previously showcased as a concept at the Vietnam Motor Show 2022, sparking expectations of its launch in the country. However, Toyota Vietnam has not yet revealed any plans to bring this electric SUV to Vietnamese customers. But with recent changes, there is renewed hope that Toyota may reconsider introducing this model to the Vietnamese market.

Toyota has recently unveiled an upgraded version of its electric SUV, the bZ4X, for the 2025 model year. The updated model features subtle exterior and interior design changes, significant improvements to its powertrain, and even a new name.

In the North American market, the facelifted Toyota bZ4X will simply be known as the Toyota bZ. While the reasoning behind this name change is unclear, there have been rumors that Toyota’s international electric vehicle lineup will start adopting unique names.

In terms of design, the new Toyota bZ moves away from the distinctive “hammerhead” style of the previous bZ4X. The front end has been refined with sharper LED headlights and more aggressive front bumper intakes. On the sides, new 18-inch or 20-inch alloy wheels give the electric SUV a more sophisticated and premium appearance.

The rest of the exterior remains largely unchanged, except for the removal of contrasting colors on elements like the wheel arches, which are now body-colored for a more cohesive look.

Moving inside the cabin, the dashboard has been enhanced with a 14-inch central infotainment screen as standard across all variants. The Toyota bZ now also comes equipped with two wireless charging pads and a 64-color ambient lighting system as standard. Additionally, the steering wheel now incorporates shift paddles behind the wheel, allowing the driver to adjust the level of regenerative braking.

While the exterior and interior changes are subtle, the updates to the powertrain are significant. Both the powertrain and the battery have been upgraded for improved performance.

Specifically, the dual-motor all-wheel-drive model sees a significant increase in power output, from 215 to 338 horsepower (a boost of 123 units). The front-wheel-drive model with a single motor also gets a power bump from 201 to 221 horsepower. The driving range has been improved by 25%, now offering up to 505 kilometers on a single charge thanks to a larger lithium-ion battery (74.7 kWh). The front-wheel-drive model also offers a more affordable 57.7 kWh battery option, providing a range of 380 kilometers on a single charge.

The Toyota bZ will go on sale in the US in the third quarter of this year, with pricing to be announced at a later date.
