Farmers in Cam Lâm District, Khánh Hòa Province, are facing difficulties due to the slow consumption of Australian mangoes and the absence of traders.

Many farmers are letting their mangoes fall from the trees as the selling price has dropped to just VND 1,000-5,000/kg.

Ms. Thảo, a garden owner in Cam Thành Bắc, Cam Lâm, shared that the average selling price of Australian mangoes in previous years was around VND 25,000/kg. At the beginning of this season, farmers could still sell their produce at VND 15,000-20,000/kg, but the price has since dropped to VND 4,000-6,000/kg and now stands at only VND 1,000-5,000/kg, depending on the type.

Similarly, Mr. Võ Xuân Hiển, a 60-year-old farmer in Cam Thành Bắc, is in the midst of the harvest season, but tens of tons of mangoes remain unharvested in his 19,000 m2 garden. The cost of caring for the mango garden, including labor costs, ranges from VND 80-100 million. In previous years, his revenue was around VND 300-400 million, with a profit of VND 200 million. This year, Mr. Hiển just hopes to break even.

According to Mr. Hiển, in addition to the low prices and lack of traders, the yield has also been affected by unfavorable weather conditions, resulting in a scarcity of high-quality mangoes.

Many low-quality mangoes are being sold at a price of just VND 2,000/kg.

Mr. Huỳnh Uy Viá»…n, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Cam Lâm, stated that the district is currently in the peak harvest season for Australian mangoes. In previous years, Australian mangoes from Cam Lâm were mainly exported fresh to the Chinese market, but now, as China and Cambodia are also harvesting this type of mango, the export volume has decreased significantly. Local mangoes are now mainly consumed domestically and processed into dried mangoes and juice.
