According to the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Provincial People’s Committee Portal, on the morning of May 11, Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, chaired the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and the Standing Committee of the Provincial People’s Committee to listen to the Department of Industry and Trade report on the draft Proposal for the Project “Research on the Free Trade Area associated with the seaport in Cai Mep Ha area.”
The free trade area associated with the seaport in the Cai Mep Ha area (Cai Mep Ha FTZ) covers an area of approximately 3,749 hectares, located in Phuoc Hoa and Tan Hoa wards, Phu My city, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.
The Cai Mep Ha FTZ is divided into three functional areas, including: The first functional area – Transport hub (seaport, inland port, railway station), the second functional area – Logistics and industrial warehouses, and the third functional area – Commercial, service, high-tech industrial urban area.

The overall objective of the Project is to build the free trade area associated with the seaport in the Cai Mep Ha area into a pioneering model, piloting and accumulating experience with superior institutions; a free investment and trade environment according to international standards to promote institutional innovation.
The Cai Mep Ha FTZ is oriented to become a new growth driver, providing a foundation for Ba Ria-Vung Tau province to become a regional marine economic center; creating a space for rapid, sustainable, and integrated development for the Southeast region and the whole country.
The free trade area will focus on digital economy, green economy, and circular economy as the center and driving force for development. It will be a green logistics center and an international transshipment port, playing an important role in the global supply chain through the close linkage between the Cai Mep- Thi Vai deep-water port cluster and the Long Thanh international airport.
In addition, the Cai Mep Ha FTZ is oriented to become a center for green production and export of high value-added products, integrating advanced and environmentally friendly technology. It is also an innovation center with integrated, intelligent, and modern infrastructure. At the same time, the FTZ aims to attract talents and regional headquarters of multinational corporations in logistics, maritime services, and international trade, among others.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Tho requested the Project Development Team to absorb the opinions of the meeting participants and supplement and complete the above-mentioned Project contents.

According to statistics from the General Statistics Office, with an area of over 1,982 km2, Ba Ria-Vung Tau is the smallest province in the Southeast region.
