A Secluded Coastal Hamlet: The New Tourism Hub
The Prime Minister’s approval of the Tourism Development Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision towards 2045, has designated the Long Hai-Binh Chau area as a national tourism zone, with Ho Tram at its heart. Ho Tram is experiencing rapid growth with large-scale, international tourism projects.
Ho Tram, administratively just a small coastal hamlet in Phuoc Thuan commune, Xuyen Moc district, about 125 km from Ho Chi Minh City, is set to become a key tourism hub. The provincial People’s Committee approved the Ho Tram New Urban Area Planning Scheme until 2045, envisioning it as a coastal tourist city and an essential economic and tourism center for the province and district.

Ho Tram has quickly risen to prominence, leading the way in service excellence and shaping the region’s luxury tourism brand. Besides its rare natural advantages of a long, pristine beach and healthy climate, Ho Tram is becoming a strategic destination on the southern resort map.
Notably, the Ho Tram-Binh Chau coastal road is likened to a “billion-dollar road” with a series of large-scale tourism real estate projects. It is not only the gathering place of international resort brands but also the new center of wellness, entertainment, and sustainable investment tourism. With this development, Ho Tram is steadily asserting its position as the new tourism and resort capital of the Southeast region.
Proposed Additional Route: Ho Tram – Long Thanh Expressway
According to the adjusted “Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision towards 2050” report, with the construction of the Long Thanh International Airport, the Ho Tram area is attracting investors’ attention, especially in high-end resort tourism.
However, a significant bottleneck is the lack of well-planned and synchronized transport infrastructure connecting Long Thanh airport and Ho Tram.

The previous provincial planning lacked a direct route connecting Long Thanh International Airport and Ho Tram, resulting in longer distances and travel times for tourists, especially international and premium segment travelers.
Currently, the Ba Ria-Vung Tau province’s transport connectivity relies on a combination of expressways, national highways, and provincial roads passing through populated and existing urban areas, limiting traffic speed and prolonging travel time. This situation does not facilitate the high-quality tourism envisioned for the region.
This reality not only affects the investment attractiveness of the Ho Tram area but also hinders the development effectiveness of the entire eastern tourism economic belt of the province, including the Long Hai-Binh Chau national tourism zone.
Therefore, it is imperative to promptly research, plan, and invest in constructing a fast and direct transport link between Long Thanh airport and Ho Tram to maximize the area’s potential and advantages. This will also enhance Ba Ria-Vung Tau’s competitiveness in the national and regional tourism landscape.

The Ba Ria-Vung Tau Department of Finance has proposed including the construction of a new urban expressway connecting Ho Tram with Long Thanh International Airport in the provincial planning. This strategic proposal aims to meet the urgent need for infrastructure connectivity between the key coastal tourist area and the future southern region’s largest air transport hub.
The inclusion of this expressway in the planning and its subsequent construction will not only reduce the distance and travel time between Ho Tram and Long Thanh airport but also open up new urban development spaces along this modern transport corridor. Additionally, the road will be a crucial driver for the synchronized and sustainable development of the coastal urban system, contributing to the completion of the inter-regional infrastructure between Ba Ria-Vung Tau and the Southeast region, effectively connecting to the national transport network.
The project’s TOD-oriented (Transit-Oriented Development) approach will foster the formation of new cities and concentrated residential areas, accelerating urbanization and providing a foundation for the province’s rapid and sustainable development in the following phases.
