According to information provided at the Ministry of Construction’s conference on reviewing the work in April and deploying key tasks for May 2025, the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) is rushing to complete procedures to commence the construction of the second runway of Long Thanh International Airport by the end of May or early June.

Substantially Complete by the End of 2025

“The project will be constructed within 12 months, ensuring simultaneous operation with the first runway when the Long Thanh International Airport project is put into operation with all items (expected in the first half of 2026),” said the ACV leader.

Up to now, the first runway has been electrified, “lit up”, and ready for calibration flights, reducing the schedule by three months compared to the plan.

Regarding the two connecting transport routes, route T1 has been basically completed, with 2/3 of the concrete pavement layers completed in April 2025. Route T2 is accelerating to meet the deadline by September 2nd.

The aircraft parking lot and fuel supply package are basically on schedule, expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

For the terminal building item, the lifting of the central steel roof weighing 5,300 tons has been completed, and the roofs of the three wings have been completed. According to the plan, in June 2025, the contractor will complete the roof covering of the central area, ensuring watertightness to continue installing equipment inside…

Regarding the hangar item (aircraft maintenance hangar), Vietnam Airlines has implemented the basic design, and the specialized agency has completed the appraisal. The related procedures are being completed, aiming to commence construction in June. Vietjet is also simultaneously implementing the design and selecting the construction unit to accelerate the progress of the item in charge.

Currently, Package 4.8 is the “critical path” of the project with a large volume of work, with more than 20,000 tasks. Contractors are concentrating their efforts day and night to speed up the progress. The drainage and technical tunnels (over 22km long) are expected to be completed by June.

Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh requested that the investor direct the construction units to concentrate resources and control the construction progress of each item in detail, ensuring substantial completion by the end of 2025.
