The Standing Vice Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nghi, a member of the Party Central Committee, has recently concluded a working session regarding the implementation of the Can Gio International Transit Port Project (referred to as the Project). During this session, Mr. Nguyen acknowledged and highly appreciated the sense of responsibility demonstrated by various agencies, units, municipal departments, and the Vietnam Maritime Corporation and Saigon Port Joint Stock Company.

Their proactive and coordinated efforts in preparing project proposals and related contents have been recognized, and the project has now been approved in principle by the Prime Minister.

Mr. Nguyen commended the departments’ diligent execution of tasks assigned by the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 148/QD-TTg. They have effectively implemented the requirements and directives of the Government, the Municipal Party Committee’s Standing Board, and the People’s Committee.

Mr. Nguyen highlighted the strategic importance of the project for the Southeast region, stating that it will become an international transit center for Ho Chi Minh City and the surrounding area.

However, he also noted that while the initial phase of the project was highly proactive, the current progress is slower than expected and desired.

Moving forward, Mr. Nguyen requested that agencies and units continue to proactively coordinate and collaborate more closely according to their functions and assigned tasks to expedite the implementation of the contents and directives of the Central Government, the Government, and the Prime Minister.

He instructed the Municipal Party Committee and the People’s Committee to direct municipal departments to coordinate with the Vietnam Maritime Corporation and Saigon Port Joint Stock Company to thoroughly review and evaluate the advantages and difficulties of the project. They should also pay attention to emerging issues in the implementation process and assess the project’s impact in the context of the city’s ongoing provincial merger and local two-tier administration organization.

Based on this review, the People’s Committee should promptly report and propose to the Standing Government and the Prime Minister for consideration and directives. Simultaneously, they should send reports to the Municipal Party Committee’s Standing Board and the Standing Board for monitoring and overall direction.

Mr. Nguyen emphasized the need for proactive coordination to obtain official guidance from relevant ministries and sectors promptly. This will enable Ho Chi Minh City to complete the investor selection process for the project, ensuring compliance with procedures, regulations, and provisions.

Based on the requirements and directives of the Prime Minister, the municipal departments should urgently review and proactively develop solutions. For matters within the authority of the People’s Committee, they should provide instructions, inspect, and urge the departments to accelerate the progress and complete each task according to the general requirements and directives.

For matters with obstacles and difficulties, they should synthesize and report to the Government, the Standing Government, and the Prime Minister for consideration and resolution. Mr. Nguyen requested decisive and persistent follow-up on the city’s proposals and recommendations.

Finally, Mr. Nguyen suggested that the People’s Committee take into account the reasonable opinions of the meeting participants and synthesize them into a comprehensive report to be submitted to the Municipal Party Committee and the People’s Committee for consideration and reporting to the Municipal Party Committee’s Standing Board and the Standing Board for direction or timely reporting to competent authorities for further project implementation.
