The first of two critical components at the Long Thanh airport mega-project – Runway 1 – has been officially completed. With a length of 4 km and a width of 70 m, this runway is capable of accommodating all types of modern aircraft currently in operation worldwide. Photo: ACV

This work is part of Package 4.6, with a total investment of over 7,000 billion VND, including the main taxiway, connecting taxiways, rapid exit taxiways, aircraft parking aprons, and areas for ground support equipment. This project was completed three months ahead of the initial schedule. Photo: ACV

According to observations in May, not only has the runway been completed, but related components within the same package – such as the aircraft parking apron and ground support equipment parking area – are also being expedited, creating a bustling atmosphere at the construction site. Photo: ACV

Notably, the runway’s lighting system features LED technology imported from Europe, ensuring strict compliance with global aviation industry technical standards. Additionally, Long Thanh airport is equipped with a modern ILS/DME navigation and landing system, enabling aircraft to approach and land safely even in unfavorable weather conditions. Photo: ACV

This achievement is a result of relentless efforts by the investor – Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), the Long Thanh International Airport Project Management Board, and the contractor consortium, who mobilized 1,025 personnel and 243 units of equipment, simultaneously deploying 30 construction teams to complete the installation of all equipment, ensuring stable and safe operations. The completion of the runway lighting system using state-of-the-art LED technology that meets international standards, along with the ILS/DME navigation system, showcases Vietnam’s design, construction, and airport operations capabilities on par with leading countries in the world of aviation infrastructure. The synchronization between the lighting and navigation systems prepares Long Thanh airport for calibration flights. These flights are expected to take place shortly, marking a significant step toward the determination to complete Vietnam’s largest airport project by the end of this year. Photo: ACV

The objective of calibration flights is to assess the signal quality of the navigation equipment, evaluate flight procedures using ground-based navigation signals to maintain accuracy, stability, and safety in air traffic operations, and flight procedures using navigation signals from ground-based stations.

Long Thanh International Airport, under construction on an area of nearly 5,000 hectares in Long Thanh district, Dong Nai province, is designed to serve 100 million passengers and 5 million tons of cargo annually, with an investment of over $16 billion. Upon completion, Long Thanh will be Vietnam’s largest airport. The illumination of the Long Thanh airport runway, incorporating the latest technologies, not only signifies a technical milestone but also symbolizes a modern and progressive Vietnam, poised to connect globally in the new era of international air transportation.
