At a recent press conference, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Phạm Thu Hằng, stated that Vietnam has been proactive and active in promoting balanced and sustainable investment and trade cooperation with the US. This cooperation is conducted in a spirit of effectiveness, frankness, constructiveness, equality, and mutual respect, aiming for mutual benefits.

Negotiations between Vietnam and the US regarding the US’s retaliatory tariff policy on Vietnamese exports are currently underway. More specific information regarding these negotiations will be provided later.

Prior to this, at the 9th session of the 15th National Assembly, the Prime Minister informed that after the US announced the postponement of retaliatory tariffs and agreed to initiate negotiations with Vietnam, the Government established a Government Negotiation Delegation, headed by the Minister of Industry and Trade. The Government also directed the development of a negotiation plan.

Vietnam has commenced negotiations and is among the six countries prioritized by the US for negotiations (including the UK, India, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, and Indonesia) out of over 100 economies. The first negotiation session with the US took place on May 7th.

The Prime Minister also emphasized that the Government has been closely directing the Negotiation Delegation and relevant ministries and agencies to monitor the situation and urgently finalize the negotiation plan. Vietnam is ready to negotiate with the US, aiming for harmonious interests and shared risks.
