The Hanoi People’s Committee has issued Decision No. 2423/QD-UBND to amend and supplement the list of lakes, ponds, and marshes that are not allowed to be filled in, as per Decision No. 1614/QD-UBND dated March 20, 2023.

This decision reduces the number of lakes that cannot be filled in by two, located in Tay Ho District and Ung Hoa District.

It also adjusts the information of 53 lakes and ponds in Hoang Mai District and Ung Hoa District.

Dam Bong Lake (Hoang Mai District) was filled in

The city added 339 lakes and ponds to the list of those that cannot be filled in, across districts including Thanh Xuan, Hoang Mai, Nam Tu Liem, Chuong My, and Ung Hoa.

With this addition, Hanoi now has a total of 3,501 lakes, ponds, and marshes that are protected from being filled in.

In reality, many lakes and ponds in the city have been filled to make way for construction projects, leading to environmental issues such as pollution, flooding, and ecological imbalances.

Experts agree that the city’s move to supplement the list of protected water bodies is a step towards tighter management and transparency, empowering citizens to take action and avoid vague regulations that hinder violation handling.
