The expansion and upgrade project of National Highway 50, with a total investment of nearly VND 1,500 billion, commenced construction in late 2022. The project is approximately 7 km long, starting from the intersection with Nguyen Van Linh Boulevard (Binh Chanh District) and ending at the border with Long An Province. The road has been widened from 8 m to 34 m, including 6 lanes. Of this, more than 4 km is a new parallel route, with the remaining section being the expansion of the existing route.

The National Highway 50 upgrade project in Binh Chanh District has a total land acquisition area of 30.99 hectares and a route length of 8.56 km. It involves the construction of a new 4km section and the upgrade of the existing 4.56km section; with an average width of 34m, the road passes through 4 communes: Binh Hung, Phong Phu, Da Phuoc, and Qui Duc, affecting a total of 725 households and individuals. As of now, land clearance has been completed for all 725 cases, achieving a 100% clearance rate.

At the sites where land has been handed over, the construction from Trinh Quang Nghi Street to the existing National Highway 50 is basically completed (with only the section adjacent to Trinh Quang Nghi Street awaiting land filling); the remaining sections (from Nguyen Van Linh Street to Trinh Quang Nghi Street and from the existing National Highway 50 to the Long An border) are progressing slowly.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Tri – Deputy Head of the Compensation and Site Clearance Board of Binh Chanh District at the press conference.

Explaining the construction obstacles as reflected by the investor, at a press conference providing information on socio-economic issues in the city on the afternoon of May 15, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tri – Deputy Head of the Compensation and Site Clearance Board of Binh Chanh District – attributed the delays to the investor’s slow acceptance of the cleared land or slow construction organization, causing people to change their minds and obstruct construction.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Tri, along the parallel route of National Highway 50, there is a household with a land area of 627.4 m² within the project implemented by Khang Phuc Housing Investment Business Company Limited, of which 615 m² overlaps with the boundary of the National Highway 50 upgrade project.

This household handed over the land on April 11, 2025. The Compensation Board has notified the project investor to receive the cleared land, but it was not until May 9 that the investor took possession of this location.

At the section of the expanded National Highway 50, there is a household affected by an area of 1,259.1 m² in the Garbage Area II Project (of which 201 m² overlaps with the National Highway 50 upgrade project). The Compensation Board has completed compensation, support, and resettlement land allocation policies.

Although this household agreed to hand over the land at the beginning of April 2025, due to the investor’s slow construction organization, they changed their minds. Thanks to the persuasion of the local authorities, the household later agreed to the construction.

In the area of Ong Thinh Bridge, the last household dismantled houses, works, and handed over the cleared land on April 10, 2024. However, as the construction was not carried out continuously, the household obstructed the construction. After being contacted and persuaded by the local authorities, this household also agreed to allow the construction to resume.

We affirm that as of now, 100% of the land area for the construction of the National Highway 50 expansion project has been handed over,” emphasized Mr. Nguyen Huu Tri.
