The project was approved by the Provincial People’s Committee on May 30, 2019, with a total investment of VND 220 billion. The investor is the People’s Committee of Nui Thanh district. The total length of the project is over 4km, including the Tam Tien Bridge with 9 spans and the approach road.

This key transport project aims to shorten the distance from the center of Nui Thanh district to the coastal communes, facilitate rescue and relief operations during natural disasters, and boost the local economy. Construction began in December 2020 and was expected to be completed by December 2022, but the project remains unfinished and exposed to the elements.

As observed, the project is still incomplete, with only a few pillars, abutments, and bridge spans constructed. The bridge girders, cast ahead of time, have been left exposed to the weather for years. Scaffolding and machinery are left to rust at the site.

Meanwhile, residents of the two communes are eagerly awaiting the completion of the bridge as they currently have to take a detour of more than 10 kilometers or cross an old bridge, also known as the “farewell bridge.”

Recently, the Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee issued a decision to adjust the project implementation period from 2018-2024 to 2018-2025 and clarified the responsibilities of organizations and individuals related to the project’s delay.

The leaders of Quang Nam province have requested to clarify the responsibilities for the delay in the project’s construction.

In April 2025, Thanh Tung Co., Ltd. (the contractor) requested to temporarily suspend work due to the investor’s delay in site handover (only 49.96% completed). As a result, the construction contract had to be extended and amended eight times. As of October 25, 2024, the company had completed 45.45% of the contract value, with the remaining 54.55% pending due to incomplete site handover.

Additionally, the prolonged halt in construction due to site clearance issues, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, rising labor and material costs, and the scarcity of filling materials and rocks have made road construction challenging.

Therefore, the company requested to temporarily suspend the contract and resume work only when the site is fully handed over, with price adjustments to compensate for the price fluctuations and contract schedule adjustments to match the actual circumstances.

On May 15, Mr. Le Van Sinh, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Nui Thanh district, said that the local authority had worked with the contractor, and the company agreed to continue the project. The district will also expedite site clearance and contract extension procedures with the contractor to resume construction…
