Specifically, the Deputy Prime Minister decided to add copper mineral areas in Lao Cai province included in the Master Plan for Exploration, Exploitation, Processing, and Utilization of Minerals for the period 2021-2030, with a vision towards 2050, which was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 866/QD-TTg dated July 18, 2023, to the list of non-auction mineral exploitation areas under the authority of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
Accordingly, the expanded mining area of the Sin Quyen copper mine in Sin Quyen and Coc My communes, Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province, with an area of 585.8 hectares, and the copper mining area southeast of the Sin Quyen mine in Sin Quyen and Coc My communes, Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province, with an area of 385.5 hectares, were added to the list of non-auction mineral exploitation rights granted to the Vietnam National Mineral Corporation – Vimico.

The Deputy Prime Minister directed the addition of the expanded and deepened mining area of the Ta Phoi copper mine in Ta Phoi commune, Lao Cai city, Lao Cai province, with an area of 407.3 hectares, to the list of non-auction mineral exploitation rights granted to the Ta Phoi – Vinacomin Copper Joint Stock Company.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the People’s Committee of Lao Cai province are fully responsible to the Prime Minister for the accuracy of the reported information and data. Based on this, they will coordinate with relevant ministries and sectors to implement the granting of mineral exploitation rights without going through auctions for the above-mentioned mineral areas and in accordance with the law.
According to geological documents and reports from specialized agencies, Lao Cai has about 150 mines and ore sites of 35 different types of minerals.
Most recently, within the framework of the Northwest Project, after nearly eight years of implementation, specialized agencies have discovered and assessed a total of 110 mineral mines of 25 types of valuable and important minerals in the entire Northwest region, including gold, copper, rare earths, tin-tungsten, antimony, decorative stones, and industrial limestone…
In particular, in Lao Cai province, one of the key mineral localities, the project has recorded a copper mine with accompanying minerals, including over 420 kg of gold in the identified Grade 333 mineral resources.
