Here’s a recap of the 118th episode of ‘On the Chair’ aired on HTV9 on May 15, 2025.

VinFast is emerging as a force to be reckoned with in the Vietnamese electric motorcycle market. With a diverse range of products, what are your thoughts on VinFast electric motorcycles? Which model stands out to you the most?

First of all, VinFast is not a new player in the market. They have been working diligently since 2018 and have established a strong presence in the electric motorcycle industry. In fact, they currently hold the largest market share.

VinFast offers a wide range of electric motorcycle models, catering to various segments from affordable to premium options. Their products emphasize durability, efficiency, reasonable pricing, and environmental friendliness, which have become synonymous with the VinFast electric motorcycle brand.

Among their lineup, my personal favorite is the Vento. This model embodies the strengths of an electric motorcycle, boasting advanced technology, impressive performance, a sleek and sophisticated design, enhanced safety features, and a very competitive price point. It comes with a smart key system, eliminating the need for a traditional mechanical key. With just a push of a button, the bike is ready to go. In the 40 million VND price range, the VinFast Vento is undoubtedly one of the most premium offerings.

VinFast recently introduced two new variants, the Evo Lite Neo and Evo Neo, which are developments based on the Evo200. What are your thoughts on these new models?

I own an Evo200 myself, and it has been a reliable daily commuter. Regarding the launch of these two new models, I applaud VinFast’s strategic move.

Firstly, VinFast is demonstrating its commitment to diversifying its product portfolio, offering customers more choices within the same line. The Evo Lite Neo, with its 78 km range and 49 km/h speed limit, is particularly well-suited for students.

Secondly, the lower price points of the Evo Lite Neo and Evo Neo compared to the Evo200 make these electric motorcycles more accessible to a broader range of customers. In addition to students, office workers or employees with a monthly income of 15-20 million VND can also consider these models as a practical daily commuting option.

Priced at 18 million VND, these new variants offer excellent value for money. For a similar price, one would typically only find basic gasoline-powered motorcycles. Therefore, the potential for these new models is immense, especially considering that the largest segment of the Vietnamese motorcycle market is still dominated by standard motorcycles.

What are your thoughts on the all-new VinFast Motio, priced at just 14.99 million VND?

I’m quite impressed with the Motio. While VinFast positioned this model specifically for students, I believe its appeal extends beyond that target audience.

A few years ago, many people opted for inexpensive Chinese-made electric motorcycles priced around 15 million VND. However, those bikes often lacked quality and safety features, and it wasn’t uncommon to see them discarded after a few years of use.

VinFast previously offered models in this price range, such as the Impes and Ludo, but they have since discontinued production. I’m hopeful that VinFast will re-enter the affordable segment because there is a significant demand for it.

With the introduction of the Motio, VinFast has made a commendable comeback in this price category. This model showcases a youthful and modern style, offering expanded features compared to its predecessors. Its design inspires creativity, as evidenced by the customized Motio bikes shared on social media and spotted on the roads.

The Motio boasts a spacious storage compartment, a larger and longer floorboard that prevents mud and dirt from splashing onto the rider, a feature rarely found in motorcycles in the 14-15 million VND range.

During use, this design advantage allows students to conveniently store their backpacks or sports equipment. Additionally, it makes the Motio a practical choice for family use or small businesses, as it can accommodate larger items such as a bag of rice, several cases of beer, or other goods.

Based on your insights, do you think VinFast has become complacent, or will they continue to introduce new products?

I believe VinFast will continue to expand its product range because serving a large market demands a diverse offering. While their current models have a neutral design appeal, I anticipate VinFast introducing bolder, more distinctive models that cater to niche customer segments. These new additions will solidify their position as the leading electric motorcycle brand in the market.

From its early days to the present, VinFast has been at the forefront of understanding customer needs and preferences. They incorporated the best features and technologies into their initial offerings, setting the standard for premium models in their respective segments. Now, with a deeper understanding of their customer base, they are fine-tuning their products to align with evolving demands. While this strategy is not novel, I believe it will be a key driver of their success.

What is your assessment of VinFast electric motorcycles’ potential in the overall Vietnamese motorcycle market?

VinFast has tremendous potential in the market for several reasons.

Firstly, the Vietnamese government is strongly promoting environmental protection initiatives to create a greener and cleaner Vietnam. VinFast electric motorcycles provide an excellent opportunity for individuals who want to contribute to this national effort.

Secondly, the gasoline-powered motorcycle market has reached a saturation point over the last five years.

Thirdly, VinFast itself is creating opportunities and expanding its potential. They are dedicated to making electric motorcycles accessible to all Vietnamese citizens and are actively expanding their service network nationwide. According to my sources, they are on track to surpass Honda in terms of service center numbers by the end of this year, ensuring convenient access to maintenance and repair services for their customers.

Aside from environmental benefits, what other advantages do VinFast electric motorcycles offer?

Firstly, VinFast electric motorcycle owners can expect a high-quality product with a reliable motor and battery.

Secondly, these electric motorcycles are cost-effective to operate.

Thirdly, VinFast electric motorcycles are user-friendly and easy to adapt to. Unlike gasoline-powered motorcycles, there’s no need to worry about oil changes or coolant checks.

Lastly, on a broader scale, I dream of a future where all vehicles in Vietnam are electric. This shift would significantly improve air quality, reduce fine dust pollution, and enhance road safety.

Lastly, based on your insights, who do you think is the typical VinFast electric motorcycle customer?

Currently, those who have a genuine need for electric motorcycles have chosen VinFast. Students make up a significant portion of this customer base, and VinFast’s offerings align perfectly with their needs. They don’t have to worry about refueling or maintenance, and the speed limiters on some models enhance their safety.

The second largest group of customers is office workers. Their daily commute typically doesn’t exceed 30-40 km, so charging the battery every 2-3 days is sufficient. Additionally, for those with average incomes, the savings of a few hundred thousand VND per month can be significant.
