Lada Vesta – One of the models from the Russian brand that has arrived in Vietnam

Will it Win Over Vietnamese Customers?

A batch of Lada vehicles, a leading brand in the Russian market, has arrived in Vietnam, including various sedan and small SUV models. However, the official launch date of these cars has not yet been announced.

The four Lada models, spanning different segments, are expected to be priced competitively, with the sedan starting at approximately 360 million VND and the SUV from 390 million VND. These prices are considered very attractive, equivalent to only Group A cars.

Immediately after the images of this batch of vehicles were published, they attracted the attention of the community. On various social media platforms, forums for car enthusiasts, and in the press, numerous comments expressed excitement about the arrival of these new models.

Many posts attracted thousands of interactions and comments (Screenshot)

Most comments suggested that vehicles from Russia are already renowned for their durability, and with added fuel efficiency or affordable pricing, they wouldn’t have difficulty pleasing Vietnamese customers.

Reader Tran Viet commented on an article in the newspaper Tuoi Tre: “Russian cars have very strong engines and high durability. Combined with improved designs and attractive looks that match consumer tastes, they will find a place in the Vietnamese market.” Reader Nguyen Van Trong asserted, “If it’s durable and fuel-efficient, you’ll see them everywhere soon.”

On VnExpress, reader truongminh3112 commented, “The design looks plain, but if the price is right, it could become the new symbol for off-road enthusiasts.” Reader songuntgdamage stated, “The Lada Niva is not a car for those who favor technology or luxury. It’s for those who value durability, simplicity, and practicality. This car can handle off-roading well, is easy to repair, has minimal breakdowns, and has low maintenance costs. Not everyone will like it, but for those passionate about classic off-roaders, the Niva has a unique appeal that many modern cars lack.”

Alongside the positive assessments and confidence in the brand’s return to Vietnam after nearly 30 years, many people also expressed concerns about the styling and design of these models, which are not eye-catching and seem outdated compared to current market trends.

In an article on Dan Tri, a reader named Quoc Dung wrote, “The design will struggle to compete, let alone considering fuel consumption, interior, and equipment.” Chieu Ly shared a similar opinion on Tuoi Tre: “The design of this car hasn’t changed since the 1980s. It’s not eye-catching.”

However, one cannot deny the allure of this legendary Russian brand, which adds a new dimension to the mass-market segment. Many people also expressed their desire to own one of these vehicles soon.

Four Lada Models from Russia Coming to Vietnam

The Lada lineup includes the Granta, Vesta, Niva, and Niva Travel models. These are the same four names mentioned in previous information.

Lada Granta

The Lada Granta is one of the brand’s key models. In 2024, Lada maintained its top position in sales with the Lada Granta, selling 201,500 units, capturing over 12% of the new car market share in Russia. 2024 also marked the eighth consecutive year for the Granta as the best-selling car in Russia.

Lada Granta – One of Lada’s best-selling models in Russia

The Lada Granta belongs to the B-segment sedans, competing with the likes of the Toyota Vios, Hyundai Accent, and Mitsubishi Attrage. It is the smallest sedan in the segment, measuring 4,260 mm in length and 1,700 mm in width.

The most notable aspect of the Lada models coming to Vietnam is their expected pricing. According to initial information, the Lada Granta could be priced from around 360 million VND, significantly lower than its rivals in the same segment, such as the Toyota Vios (starting at 466 million VND) or the Hyundai Accent (from 439 million VND).

Lada Granta has a competitive price but lacks some modern features

However, the car has some regrettable drawbacks, such as the absence of an infotainment system, electric power steering, and almost no safety features. Its stronger points are its price and engine power/torque.

The car is powered by a 1.6L engine, producing between 87 and 98 horsepower, depending on the version, paired with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. The Lada Granta is favored by Russians not only for its affordability but also for its simplicity and ease of repair, making it suitable for harsh operating conditions.

Lada Vesta

The Lada Vesta also demonstrated its strong appeal by selling 123,200 units, achieving nearly 200% growth and ranking second in sales in 2024.

The Vesta is also a B-segment sedan but has larger dimensions, comparable to the Toyota Vios. It measures 4,410 mm in length and 1,764 mm in width. While the expected price has not been disclosed, one can predict that this model will also compete on price.

Lada Vesta has a more modern and attractive design compared to the Granta

The Vesta’s design is considered more modern and appealing than the Granta. However, a significant drawback of this model is its lack of comfort features. It only offers 15-inch wheels, a 7-inch infotainment system, automatic climate control, 2-3 airbags, cruise control, ABS, EBD, and ESC.

Lada Niva

The most significant advantage of the Lada Niva remains its expected pricing, starting at just 390 million VND.

The Lada Niva is a 2-door SUV with a compact design. It measures 3,740 mm in length and 1,680 mm in width, featuring an SUV chassis, 4-wheel drive, and off-road capabilities.

The equipment on this model is also considered sparse: 16-inch wheels, no airbags, and temporarily without ABS.

Lada Niva Travel

Lada Niva Travel is the most premium model in Lada’s current lineup

The Lada Niva Travel is the most premium model in Lada’s current lineup.

Compared to the Niva, the Niva Travel boasts a more modern and substantial design, featuring 5 doors, a length of 4,046 mm, and a width of 1,800 mm, making it suitable for multipurpose and family use. The expected price is also a strength of this Russian SUV, similar to other Lada models coming to Vietnam, with a projected starting price of 390 million VND. Its off-road capabilities are another advantage.

However, the Niva Travel’s outdated equipment and safety features may hinder its competitiveness. Notable mentions include the absence of power buttons for the rear doors, relying instead on manual cranks. The comfort features are basic, with manual air conditioning, fabric seats, and a plain steering wheel… Safety features include only ABS, EBD, and cruise control…
