In a recent announcement on their official fanpage, Dodo Pizza Vietnam revealed that they will be closing all their stores in Ho Chi Minh City by May 26, 2025, and will only retain their single outlet in Dong Xoai, Binh Phuoc Province, which opened in late 2024.

Since entering the Vietnamese market in 2021, Dodo Pizza had aimed to open 150 stores nationwide. Specifically, by 2026, they planned to have 30 stores in Ho Chi Minh City and 20 in Hanoi.

In May 2023, Fyodor Ovchinnikov, the founder of Dodo Pizza, visited Vietnam to promote the franchise model. He shared that the Moscow-based brand had 935 stores in 17 countries at that time. Dodo Pizza envisioned expanding to 1,000 additional outlets across Europe, Africa, and Asia within five years, including Vietnam.

Unlike traditional chains, Dodo Pizza positions itself as a “foodtech” company. Their internal management platform, Dodo IS, integrates restaurant management software and cloud storage technology, enabling real-time monitoring of operations such as cash flow, inventory, and service quality. Customers can also view the pizza-making process via cameras installed in the kitchen.

According to their official website, Dodo Pizza currently operates 1,381 stores in 27 countries, with a revenue of US$1 billion in 2024, a 28% increase from the previous year. However, Vietnam is one of the rare markets where Dodo Pizza has not achieved the expected growth.

The F&B market in Vietnam, especially the pizza segment, is highly competitive. As a subset of the fast-food industry, pizza chains have been experiencing continuous revenue growth in recent years.

While Dodo Pizza may lag behind chicken chains in terms of scale, their growth rate is significantly higher. The Vietnamese pizza market is crowded with well-known brands such as Pizza 4P’s, Pizza Hut, Domino’s Pizza, and The Pizza Company.
