VinFast has long established itself in three main sectors: electric motorcycles, electric cars, and electric buses. These products respectively cater to personal mobility, consumer services, and public transportation needs, showcasing a commitment to building a sustainable and comprehensive mobility ecosystem. The company has invested significantly in these segments.

However, over the years, the logistics segment—specifically freight transportation—has been notably absent from their product strategy. This changed in mid-May 2025 when VinFast unveiled its new small electric truck, the EC Van. With this launch, the market is witnessing signals of the Vietnamese automaker stepping into a promising yet competitive arena: urban freight transportation.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, CEO of the electric taxi company Xanh SM, the EC Van is more than just a compact cargo vehicle. With its discreet design, smooth electric motor, and unrestricted access within city limits, the EC Van is expected to play a versatile role in modern urban supply chains.

Mr. Thanh highlights some practical use cases: from transporting goods between intra-regional warehouses for e-commerce platforms, delivering dry goods to convenience stores and F&B outlets, to handling last-mile deliveries for courier and postal services. One standout feature is its competitive pricing, estimated at VND 285 million, and operating costs that are 60-70% lower than internal combustion engine vehicles.

With logistics companies like Lalamove, Ahamove, and GogoX continuously expanding their delivery fleets in major cities, the introduction of a dedicated electric vehicle like the EC Van could bring about notable shifts in the greening of Vietnam’s logistics industry.

From the perspective of a transportation service company like Xanh SM, they have not yet implemented delivery services using electric vans. However, according to Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, the EC Van could create a potential segment for Xanh SM to expand from passenger transportation to cargo logistics, and from taxi services to logistics.

Should Xanh SM venture into the logistics segment, it would significantly bolster VinFast’s “from production to operation” strategy.

In his post, Mr. Thanh also envisions the future introduction of larger electric trucks, offering a comprehensive solution spanning personal vehicles, taxis, electric buses, and multi-tier freight transportation.

VinFast is expected to open reservations for this model in the coming week, with special offers for early adopters.

The VinFast EC Van (short for E-City Van) boasts a compact design with dimensions of 3,767 x 1,680 x 1,790 mm and a wheelbase of 2,520 mm. It features a 2-seat cockpit and a spacious cargo area with a capacity of up to 2,600L and a payload of over 600 kg.

Powered by an electric motor with a maximum output of 30kW and peak torque of 110Nm, the EC Van can reach a top speed of 75 km/h. Its 17kWh battery enables a range of 150 km on a single charge.
